Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

Early Release Mondays

Adventures in STEM with PlayWell Lego Fee: $212
Grades: K-5
Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects and use special pieces to create your own unique designs! Projects are rotated seasonally to ensure that both new and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system.

Capoeira Mandinga: Afro-Brazilian Martial Arts Fee: $189
Grades: 1-5
Learn the flowing, beautiful Afro-Brazilian Martial Art Capoeira with Capoeira Mandinga Tucson. Students will learn kicks, escapes, and fluid moves that build mind and body strength, flexibility, and agility. Students also learn music that drives the energy of the Capoeira game. Capoeira increases balance, creativity, and confidence. Teachers Anne Pollack and Aidan Miller-Wells were honored with a 2019 Southwest Folklife Alliance Award. Aidan has trained in Capoeira over 12 years. Anne is the only Master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian Arts in the State of Arizona.

Grades K-5
Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary. Students build strategy and play games. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. Ken Larsen, an instructor for over 30 years and a competitive chess player, has led CFSD students to victories at local, state and national tournaments. *Note ending time

Cooking with Ms. Jean       Fee: $152
Grades: 3-5
In this class, students take a more hands-on approach investigating what ingredients to use and why! We will learn new cooking techniques and how to use new measuring instruments while learning basic math techniques and building broader language skills in cuisine. Of course, while always being safe in the kitchen! This class will focus on unique foods worldwide, from Asia, South America, and Europe. 

Rockin’ Rockets      Fee: $251
Grades: 2-5
Rockets are back! Mr. Bob of Why Things Fly will be there to help you sore to great heights with a classic Estes Model Rocket that you will build yourself and launch multiple times over the coming weeks. This is a great introduction into the fun flying hobby of model rocketry.

Soccer Shots K-2                    Fee: $229
Grades 3-5
This afterschool program focuses on introducing and developing each player’s soccer skills as the  coaches follow an innovative curriculum that combines drills and games in a relaxed and fun environment to encourage development!

TUESDAY

Cooking with Ms. Jean       Fee: $169
Grades: K-2
Students will learn to use fun kitchen gadgets like an instant pot, waffle iron, indoor grill and air fryer to create creatively delicious food! They will then add their newly learned recipes to cookbooks so they can show off their new skills at home. 

Tennis Club           Fee: $328        
Grades K-5
Buddy the Ball Tennis Club brings an engaging and entertaining approach to Tennis, with Buddy as the mascot and the main character in their books. They spark the imagination in kiddos! Our multicolored wristbands are similar to the colored belts in martial arts. Our athletes feel achievement as they progress and learn. Buddy's Tennis Class builds confidence, and creates a feeling of belonging to a team. Our coaches are role models, and our curriculum is proven to progress kids to the level needed to compete in junior tennis! MOST importantly, the kids have a blast in Buddy’s Tennis Class.

Tiny Tech Engines      Fee: $308
Grades 3-5                     
Taught by professional Nicole Watson, from Works by Watson, who has a degree in auto & diesel technologies, is bringing a fun & educational perspective on technology and machines to children. Using STEM ideas, students will learn how Technology has influenced machines, how to take care of them, and how to create their own custom-built machine to take home. This hands-on learning and visual experience is designed to accommodate all learning styles.

WEDNESDAY

Cheer by TGA      Fee: $295
Grades: K-5
Discover how fun and exciting cheerleading can be! Coaches will lead students through drill and activities to build their skills in tumbling, stunting, choreography, motions, jumps and performance. Students will also partake in labs to explore concepts like gravity, balance and aerodynamics in cheerleading.

Yearbook Club     
Grades: 3-5 Fee: $169
Are you passionate about capturing and preserving memories? Join the Yearbook Club with Ms. McNamara, and become part of a dedicated team that creatively documents the events and experiences of our school community. In this class, you will gain hands-on experience in photography, graphic design, and project management as we work together to produce an unforgettable yearbook. Learn essential skills such as photo composition, editing techniques, and layout design, and collaborate with fellow students to create a visually stunning and impactful publication. Join the Yearbook Club and leave a lasting legacy for your school.

Intro to Magic by Planting Seeds       Fee: $322
Grades: K-3  3:00-4:00 (Note Ending Time)
In this beginner-level magic class, students will learn different aspects and principals of magic performance and misdirection. Magic lessons including card magic, money Magic, sleight-of-hand magic, and ethics. Students will prepare to perform tricks during the final magic show

THURSDAY

Code Your Own Arcade by Code Ninjas      Fee: $385  
Grades 3-5                   
Instead of just playing games, how would you like to code your own? Learn how to build games using the characters you love and the coding skills you will gain throughout the class. You even get to choose your own themes and worlds.

Crayola Artist Passport              Fee: $338      
Grades K-5
Pack your creativity and join us on an artistic adventure! Travel the globe as we explore different cultures through fun and colorful art projects. Each stop on our journey will unlock new artistic techniques and vibrant cultural traditions. Let's create our way around the world through art!

FRIDAY

Gardening With Ms. Jean.         Fee: $169
Grades K-5
Join our fun and interactive gardening class designed specially for kids! In this class, students will learn the basics of gardening, from planting seeds to caring for plants. They will explore the magical world of nature, discover the importance of sustainable practices, and get hands-on experience in creating their own mini garden. Through engaging activities and games, kids will develop a deeper appreciation for the environment and learn valuable skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. Whether your child is a budding gardener or just curious about the natural world, this class is the perfect opportunity for them to cultivate a love for gardening and nurture their green thumb!

Pickleball by TGA                      Fee: $296
Grades 3-5

TGA Sports combines athletics, academics and life lessons to create fun and engaging youth programs. They bring all the equipment so the kids can just show up ready to have a fun time!

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS POLICIES

NSF checks: A $25 bank processing fee will be assesed for any returned checks.

Elementary Policies

Late Registration Fee Policy: There will be a $15 late registration fee for any registration received after the registration deadline.

  • If you register the day that classes start, your student will not be able to attend class until the following week.
  • If you register the week that classes begin, contact your Community Schools Program Coordinator at your school to confirm your registration.


Wait Lists: If a class you wanted to register for is FULL, please make sure you add the “Waitlist” class to your cart to ensure you are contacted if a spot becomes available. All waiting list requests are dated, time-stamped, and entered accordingly.

Refund Refunds/Changes:
When dropping out of activities after the first class, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after the 2nd day of class. There will be a $10 change fee for any class changes. No refunds if we remove your student from a class.

Procedure for Removing a Child from the Program: Our Community Schools philosophy is to provide children with safe, optimum learning opportunities. Our expectations for behavior are based on appropriate developmental levels and, when necessary, may culminate in removal of a student from a program.

DISCIPLINE  POLICY: Community Schools adheres to the CFSD Student Discipline Matrix. Community Schools reserves the right to exclude a student from a Community Schools activity if it is established that the student has violated any provision outlined in the student discipline policies, rules, and/or regulations. Additionally, Community Schools staff may exercise discretion in removing a student if such action is deemed to be in the best interest of the activity or the school as a whole.


Sign-Out Policy: To ensure the safety of the children in our program, it is mandatory that children be picked up in their classrooms and signed out by a parent following Community Schools classes. Exceptions: Children returning to CARE or going to another Community Schools class. A late pick-up fee of $2.00 per minute will be assessed for any student who is not picked up within five minutes after the end of their class.

Fees for Classes, Athletics, Outdoor Adventures and Field Trips
All fees are due at the time of enrollment, prior to the start of the program. Contact Community Schools for information on payment plans or fee reductions. Fee reductions may be available based on combined family income.
