Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CHESS 1:35-2:35pm (NOTE ending time) Grades: K-5-- Fee: $72

No prior experience is needed. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor.

CRAZY CRITTERS -- Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $150

Get up close with, and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

KIDZART -- Grades: K-5 --Fee: $172

A KidzArt certified instructor will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms, and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Each week students will bring home a different masterpiece all their own. Our curriculum never repeats!

TGA LACROSSE --Grades: 1-5 -- Fee: $205 Catch the LAX fever with TGA and discover why Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing youth sports! Our programs maximize the fun by including an exciting mix of instruction, drills, and games to develop the fundamental lacrosse skills of cradling, passing, catching, shooting, and defending.

YOYOS -- Grades: 2-5 ---Fee: $100

Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yo-yos, learn tricks and more. Instructor, Jess Gracia has been teaching you skills to large group s of students for over 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yo-yos in this class. No experience is required.

PLAY-WELL STEM Fundamentals --Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $150

Master your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as: Boats, Snowmobiles, Arch Bridges, and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.

INTRAMURAL FLAG FOOTBALL --Grades: 3-5 --Mondays, 3:00-4:00 pm -- Fee: $81

Learn the skills and techniques to master this field favorite and fulfill your enthusiasm for physical fitness and sportsmanship . Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-Wide event. Participants will receive a team shirt.

ODYSSEY of the MIND Preview --
Grades: 3-5 --Mondays, September16 and 23--- 3:00-4:30pm --- Fee: $30
Odyssey of the Mind is an exciting educational program that develops critical thinking and problem solving skills. Each year, teams are given a set of challenges and work together to engineer a solution that solves the problem within the provided constraints. FULL SEASON $370

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Preview--- Grades: 4-5 --- Wednesdays, August 14 and 21
3:00-5:45pm --- Fee: $30 ---Full Season: $250

Students who are interested in being on an FLL team must attend a 2-session FLL PREVIEW CLASS. The Preview Class allows students to try the teamwork, engineering, programming and research tasks involved in preparing for a regional robotics competition in late November or early December. Teams for the full competition season are organized from the FLL PREVIEW CLASS participants. Team membership requires excitement about and focus and persistence in meeting challenges, willingness to learn and work with others toward team goals, and commitment to the schedule of weekly meetings. (Attendance at extra sessions is optional.) Teams may advance from regional to state competition in January and to international events in April or May. The FLL Robotics programis supervised by Charlotte Ackerman and Kelly Taylor, CFSD Teacher Leaders for Science and Engineering Practices in partnership with teachers, high school mentors, parents and community members.

The fullCity ShaperFLL season team meetings for each school will begin the week of August 26, 2019 and continue on the same days through the second week in December. The 2019 FLL Challenge is to innovate and solve the problems of cities and towns to make them better and more sustainable places to live. CFSD Community Schools offers students between the ages of 9 and 15 (if 14 years-old on January 1, 2019) in Grades 4 through 10 the opportunity to participate in the international FIRST LEGO LEAGUE(FLL) robotics competition season. This year, teams will design and build a LEGO Mindstorms robot to accomplish tasks related to the City Shaper theme and propose a solution to one of the many challenges facing communities now and in the future.


STEEL DRUMS --- Grade: 5 --- Wednesdays ---3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $72
This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary. Class meets at Canyon View Elementary, must have your own transportation.

GOSHINJITSU --- Grades: 1-5 --- Thursdays at Sunrise Drive ---4:30-6:00pm --- Fee: $110
Goshinjitsu is a practical self-defense art that combines elements of Karate, Judo and Jujitsu into a simple and effective form of martial arts. Classes emphasize traditional martial arts values and principles. THIS IS A SEMESTER CLASS AND RUNS THROUGH DECEMBER 19. Transportation not provided.

KIDSTAGE WORKSHOP --- Grades: K-5 ---Thursdays,3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $177
KidStage Drama Workshop Our fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought-provoking and stimulating theater games and activities!. No acting or theater experience is necessary and first-time students are encouraged to attend.

RUNNING CLUB ----Grades: 2-5 ---Thursdays, 3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $81
Sprint your sillies out! In this running club we will play games, run obstacle courses and compete in relay races. Practice your stride, speed and pace. Come join the fun and become a better runner. All skill levels are welcome.

DIY BEADED JEWELRY --- Grades: 1-5 ---Thursdays, 3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $86
Learn how to create and design your own handmade beaded jewelry. We will use nylon-coated beading wire, beading elastic, wire, and waxed linen to create necklaces, bracelets, anklets, earrings, and hair accessories. Unwanted and inexpensive jewelry is welcome for donations.

ARTS AND CRAFTS-- Grades: K-5--- Fridays, 3:00-4:00pm--- Fee: $135
Bring your creativity and imagination and become an artist in this fun class! Students will be working on different art projects, painting, weaving, making perlel bead treasures, and much more. We’ll be using ‘upcycled' materials, pipe cleaners, felt, and paint to create our very own creations.
