Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

Chess - 1:30-2:35 (note ending time)

Grades K-5      Fee: $96

Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. has led CFSD students to victories at local, state and national tournaments.

A-Zoo

Grades K-2       Fee: $243

Geckos, lizards, and frogs, OH MY! We will learn all about the characteristics of ​reptiles  and amphibians and what makes these animals unique in our ​hands on class. Yes, you will get to hold some of them! ​We will talk about warm and cold blooded animals, invertebrates and vertebrates, skin​ types​, and so much more! ​  Investigate their habitats, diets, and how to care for them at home.  Turn your fear  of snakes  into "snakes are fascinating " as you discover how some of these animals can make excellent pets!

Art Naturally - Gone but Not Forgotten  

Grades 1-5      Fee: $143

Let's explore some of the coolest animals that once inhabited the earth. The sabre-toothed tiger, megalodon, and dodo bird will be some of the animals we will be creating using a variety of art supplies and techniques. Each week we will focus on a different animal from another time.

Crazy Critters 

Grades K-5      Fee: $149

Meet and learn about different animals each week including goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, capybaras, porcupines, Patagonian maras, reptiles and more! We will do a craft and fun worksheet related to those animals and then spend some hands on time with them.

Code Ninjas 

Grades 3-5      Fee: $286

Instead of just playing games, how would you like to code your own? Learn how to build games using the characters you love and the coding skills you will gain throughout the class. You even get to choose your own themes and worlds.

Fun with Flight         

Grades 2-5      Fee: $218

Join Bob Ray of Why Things Fly for a fun, fascinating foray into the world of flight. Students will be taught the basics of flight (why things fly) and engage in activities, building…you guessed it, things that fly! Kites, tumble wings, and gliders just to name a few. We all have an innate fascination with flight. This program will leave the students wanting to do projects on their own at home!

Harry Potter with Play-Well

Grades K-3      Fee: $189                   

Master the magic of Harry Potter using LEGO®! Visit Diagon Alley, play a game of Quidditch, and duel the evil Lord Voldemort. Hone your magical skills while learning about advanced Muggle (STEM) concepts.

TGA Golf

Grades 3-5      Fee: $234

Tee it up with Teach, Grow, Achieve (TGA), a national after-school sports enrichment program. TGA's five-level program brings the golf course to you. Have fun learning the techniques of golf! Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers.

TGA Tennis

Grades K-5       Fee: $234

Serve it up with tennis class and discover how fun and exciting tennis can be with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, forehand, backhand, volley, and serve.

KidStage presents Peter Pan        Grades: 2-5        Fee: $180

This fun-tastic adaptation is a delight for all actors and audiences! Come join Wendy and the boys as Peter Pan whisks them away to Neverland! All of the classic characters are here... mermaids, princesses, lost boys & the crocodile! Not to mention the infamous Captain Hook and his crew of villainous pirates! Follow us to Neverland...second star on the right and straight on ‘til morning!

TGA Flag Football

Grades K-5      Fee: $234

Kick it off with this modified version of America’s game that makes it fun and exciting to play with TGA!

Wednesdays  

Cooking with Ms. Jean   Grades: 3-5    Fee: $144

In this class, students take a more hands-on approach investigating what ingredients to use and why! We will learn new cooking techniques and how to use new measuring instruments while learning basic math techniques and building broader language skills in cuisine. Of course, while always being safe in the kitchen! This class will focus on unique foods worldwide, from Asia, South America, and Europe.

MultiMedia Art presented by Color Me Mine    Grades K-5    Fee: $223

Every week the students will experience working with wood, ceramic and clay using both acrylic and water-based paints building on what they have learned the previous week to continue to improve their artistic skills.

Webby Dance Company: Elementary Dance           Grades: K-2         Fee: $236

Dancers are introduced to the fundamentals of tap, jazz, and hip hop while building body awareness and self-confidence! Our classes will build on basic jazz fundamentals using individual instruction, weekly strengthening exercises, across the floor techniques and choreographed routines. Music selections include age-appropriate hip hop, 50's, calypso & much more! Each week our instructors bring new thematic class plans with engaging props

Thursdays  

Capoeira Mandinga   Grades 1-5    Fee: $169

Learn the flowing, beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira with Capoeira Mandinga Tucson. Students will learn kicks, escapes, and fluid moves that build mind and body strength, flexibility, and agility. Students also learn music that drives the energy of the Capoeira game. Capoeira increases balance, creativity, and confidence. Teachers Anne Pollack and Aidan Miller-Wells were honored with a 2019 Southwest Folklife Alliance Award. Aidan has trained capoeira over 12 years. Anne is the only master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian arts in the State of Arizona.

Cooking with Ms. Jean   Grades: K-2    Fee: $144

Students will learn to use fun kitchen gadgets like an instant pot, waffle iron, indoor grill and air fryer to create creatively delicious food! They will then add their newly learned recipes to cookbooks so they can show off their new skills at home.

Works by Watson                  Grades: K-2           Fee: $236

Who wants a fun & educational perspective on technology and machines? Our professional instructor, Nicole Watson, has a degree in auto & diesel technologies and will show students how technology has influenced machines over the years, what goes into their upkeep, and help students create a custom-built machine to take home. This hands-on learning and visual experience is designed to accommodate all learning styles.

Fridays

Gardening Club                  Grades: 2-5            Fee: $109

Do you enjoy spending time outdoors? Or maybe you like to play in the dirt and watch butterfly’s fly by. If you want to learn about nature while having fun in the garden join the after school gardening class! This class offers an outdoor interactive classroom which enriches students with powerful hands-on experiences as they learn about the plant life cycle, digging in the dirt, maintaining plant health, and see the outcome of supporting our environment and the creatures that rely on it. Students will get to plant seeds, become members of the garden pledge, create garden journals to observe weather patterns and plant growth, and all while getting to learn about the ecological connections that make up our earth! Gloves and tools are provided. Permission to get a little dirty through maintenance of garden necessary.
