Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

Chess - 1:30-2:35 (note ending time)

Grades K-5      Fee: $90

Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. has led CFSD students to victories at local, state and national tournaments.

Art Naturally - Natural Wonders of the World  

Grades K-5      Fee: $257

Art Naturally enrichment classes are for the curiously creative child. This session we will discover the art and natural history of pets. Dogs were first domesticated by humans 30,000 years ago. Then came horses, cats, birds and rats….  Art lessons include a variety of materials including acrylic paints, watercolors, clay, oil pastels and more.

Crazy Critters  

Grades K-5      Fee: $167

Meet and learn about different animals each week including goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, capybaras, porcupines, patagonian maras, reptiles and more! We will do a craft and/or fun worksheets related to those animals and then have hands on with them.

Drama Kids - Dramatic Exploration 

Grades K-5      Fee: $

Students will develop public speaking and leadership skills, while building confidence, and learning how to think quickly, creatively, and appropriately. All of this is done through our fun and energetic theater based curriculum. Students will participate in various activities including scene building, creative movement, short plays, and theater games. There are never any auditions and ALL students have the chance to shine!

TGA Golf

Grades K-5      Fee: $264

Tee it up with Teach, Grow, Achieve (TGA), a national after-school sports enrichment program. TGA's five-level program brings the golf course to you. Have fun learning the techniques of golf! Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers.

TGA Tennis

Grades K-5       Fee: $264

Serve it up with tennis class and discover how fun and exciting tennis can be with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, forehand, backhand, volley, and serve.

Color Me Mine    Grades K-5    Fee: $250

Every week the students will experience working with wood, ceramic and clay using both acrylic and water-based paints building on what they have learned the previous week to continue to improve their artistic skills.

PlayWell- Pokemon Engineering    Grades K-5    Fee: $193

Calling all Pokémon trainers! With the Pokémon Championship approaching, join our enthusiastic Play-Well Instructors as we build and catch our favorite Pokémon, rescue Pikachu from Team Rocket, take a ride on the S.S. Anne to uncover rare and mystic Pokémon, and battle to see who will hold the title of Pokémon Master. Come along on our journey to catch 'em all!!

Shyhawks Ninja Warrior     Grades K-2    Fee: $225

AGILITY/CROSSFIT/NINJA CLASSES! Skyhawks Sports Academy teaches young athletes the essential skills needed to perform a multitude of exercises. Each student learns proper body positioning, hand/arm/leg movements and jumping techniques. We offer children a positive sports experience while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Shyhawks Volleyball     Grades 3-5    Fee: $225

Skyhawks Volleyball takes the energy and excitement of this great team sport and puts it all together. All aspects of the game are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginner to intermediate player and will incorporate essential life-lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship. Our volleyball staff will assist each athlete in developing the fundamental skills of the game through game-based drills and daily scrimmages aimed at developing the whole player.

 

 

Wednesdays  9 weeks

Cooking with Ms. Jean   Grades: 3-5    Fee: $155

Students will learn to use fun kitchen gadgets like an instant pot, waffle iron, indoor grill and air fryer to create creatively delicious food! They will then add their newly learned recipes to cookbooks so they can show off their new skills at home.

Shyhawks MiniHawks    Grades K-2    Fee: $225

This multi-sport program was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of baseball, track and field and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.

Shyhawks Track and Field    Grades 3-5   Fee: $225

Skyhawks Track & Field was developed to introduce young athletes to this sport rich in tradition and history. These programs combine technical development and fundamental techniques with safety and a major focus on fun! Using special equipment, our exercises and drills will prepare athletes for a future in cross-country, track and field events, distance running, while inspiring a love for running and being active. The fundamentals of body positioning, stride, proper stretching, and cool-down techniques are all covered in this unique program.

Young Rembrandts - Cartoon Drawing    Grades: K-5      **3:00-4:00      Fee: $180  

Join us for fun and active learning! Learn the technical skills of drawing, the basis of all visual arts, in a fun and nurturing setting. Young Rembrandts innovative step-by-step teaching method, combined with a bountiful selection of drawings, introduces our students to the foundation of art. Each class is designed to teach not only basic to advanced drawing skills, but also art techniques, vocabulary, and art history.  Young Rembrandts provides all the necessary supplies for each class.

 

Thursdays  9 weeks

Capoeira Mandinga   Grades 1-5    Fee: $190

Learn the flowing, beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira with Capoeira Mandinga Tucson. Students will learn kicks, escapes, and fluid moves that build mind and body strength, flexibility, and agility. Students also learn music that drives the energy of the Capoeira game. Capoeira increases balance, creativity, and confidence. Teachers Anne Pollack and Aidan Miller-Wells were honored with a 2019 Southwest Folklife Alliance Award. Aidan has trained capoeira over 12 years. Anne is the only master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian arts in the State of Arizona.

Shyhawks Baseball    Grades: 3-5     Fee: $225

Skyhawks  progressional curriculum teaches the fundamentals of fielding, catching, throwing, hitting and base running in a fun, positive environment.  All athletes regardless of skill level will learn new baseball skills along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork and responsibility. All participants will come away with new friends, new skills and love for the game.

KidzArt    3:00-4:00pm    Grades K-5    Fee: $193

A KidzArt certified instructor that will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Each week students will bring home a different masterpiece all their own. Our curriculum never repeats!

Jewelrey with Ms. Nona     Grades K-5    Fee: $125

Come join Mrs. Nona for jewelry making where you will create one of a kind pieces to show off to all your friends. In this class you will learn to make a different variety of jewelry and accessories.
