Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

Monday 3:30 - 4:30pm 

Math League 

Grades: 3-5      $240.00

The goal of Math league is to enhance students’ interest in math and encourages students to enjoy the challenges of solving problems. Top-scoring students will be able to advance to a District Championship in the Winter before qualifying for the State Championship, and possibly the National Championship. Team members must commit to weekly meetings and local weekend contests throughout the season remotely. There will be pre-recorded videos from math professors and worksheets to follow the lessons. This is a year-long class that started in Q1. New members may join in quarter 2.

Tuesday

Beginning Chess

Grades: K-5 3:30-4:30     $120.00

Safely have fun playing online chess games against friends! Students build strategy and play chess games online through an amazing program, ChessKid. A coach will assist students in matches against fellow friends and teach them different chess techniques. Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary.

 

Intermediate Coding

Grades: 4-5  3:15-4:45     $183.00

Students will learn the fundamentals of syntax-based programming and develop stories, games and animations using Python programming. The course engages students in creative problem solving and further develops computational thinking, and lays a strong foundation of programming fundamentals including input, output, variables, random, conditionals, loops. No prior coding experience is required to participate in this course. A computer or Chromebook with internet connectivity is required to join the course.

 

Virtual Fit Games

Grades: 1-5  3:15-4:15   $64

This class will focus on keeping the kids active while being fun. A small indoor (or outdoor if wifi can reach) space is needed to allow them to stand and move from side to side. It will involve warming up, playing games, and connecting with one another. 

Wednesday

Actor's Workshop

Grades: 1-5    3:30-4:15pm  $95

Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Friday, October 30

Students will learn from home and work with our Director live over 8 sessions. Students will learn about the key tools that actors use to portray their characters and how to develop depth and layers to the characters they play.  They will also learn about thinking on their feet engaging in improvisational exercises.  Students will work on monologues, writing and directing their own monologues, and performing in a scene with other actor(s) as a part of this program!

Our Instructor will provide coaching and feedback for all our actors so they can improve their acting skills for future auditions and performances!

Advanced Chess

Grades: K-5     $120

Students explore the science of model rocketry through hands-on experiments and building projects. During the class, students will build and fly 3 different kinds of model rockets using 2 different types of propellant and 2 different types of stability control.  Lessons and experiments include principles of rocket stability, chemical reactions, and electric and electronic circuits used in rocketry. Student fees include rocket construction supplies.

Beat Drop Kidz 

Grades: K-5   Tuesdays, 3:15-4:30pm   $121

Beat Drop Kidz After School Program is a Hip Hop Dance Program that brings the fun of Hip Hop Dance directly into the schools! We teach Hip Hop in a Kid-Friendly & FUN way while teaching the “Code of Hip Hop” of “Peace, Unity, Love & Having Fun”. Students will learn several moves from various Urban Dance styles such as Popping, Break Dancing, Locking & more!

Capoeira

Grades: 1-5   Mondays, 3:15-4:45pm   $120

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art/dance form that improves physical and mental strength and encourages creativity while increasing agility and confidence. Instructor Anne Pollack has trained in Capoeira for over 22 years. This class will be held outside.

Cereative Drama 

Grades: 2-5    Fridays, 3:15-4:15pm   $80

Students will develop public speaking and leadership skills, while building confidence, and learning how to think quickly, creatively, and appropriately. All of this is done through our fun and energetic theater based curriculum. Students will participate in various activities including scene building, creative movement, short plays, and theater games. There are never any auditions and ALL students have the chance to shine!

Color Me Mine

Grades:    Mondays, 3:15-4:45pm   $171

Every week the kids will experience working with wood, ceramic and clay using both acrylic and water-based paints.

Kidz Art 

Grades: K-5   Thursdays, 3:15-4:45pm   $150

A KidzArt certified instructor that will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Each week students will bring home a different masterpiece all their own. Our curriculum never repeats!

Magic of Reading 

Grades: 2-4  Wednesdays, 3:15-4:30pm   $72

Welcome to this project-based online after school reading program for students who may want more exposure to reading. Reading is the gateway skill to all learning and it is important that children love to read. The "magic" in this program gives the children the opportunity to learn strategies in reading like decoding, comprehension, literary elements, fluency, key details, author's purpose and much more. Students will be taught a strategy and then have to produce something that shows understanding. Dr. Mary S. Florek is a Gifted Specialist in the Catalina Foothills School District. She has her master's in reading and her doctorate in curriculum and instruction. She is currently teaching grades 3-4-5 at Sunrise Drive and Canyon View Elementary. She loves both children and reading!

Ninja Class -Crossfit /Agility 

Grades: 2-5  Wednesdays, 3:15-4:45pm   $129

AGILITY/CROSSFIT/NINJA CLASSES! Skyhawks Sports Academy teaches young athletes the essential skills needed to perform a multitude of exercises. Each student learns proper body positioning, hand/arm/leg movements and jumping techniques. We offer children a positive sports experience while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Playwell: STEM Fundamentals

Grades: K-5   Tuesdays, 3:15-4:15pm   $149

Master your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas.

TGA Golf 

Grades: K-5   Thursdays, 3:15-4:45pm   $180

Tee it up this fall with Teach, Grow, Achieve (TGA), a national after-school sports enrichment program. TGA's five-level program brings the golf course to you. Have fun learning the techniques of golf! Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers.

TGA Tennis

Grades: K-5   Fridays , 3:15-4:45pm  $155

Serve it up with tennis class and discover how fun and exciting tennis can be with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, forehand, backhand, volley, and serve.
