Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CRAZY CRITTERS ---Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $150
Get up close with, and learn all about exotic animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, goats, snakes, bugs, porcupines, and more. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

KIDZART -- Grades: 1-5 ---Fee: $172
A KidzArt certified instructor will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Our curriculum never repeats! No art experience necessary.

TGA GOLF -- Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $205
Tee it up this fall with Teach, Grow, Achieve (TGA), a national after-school sports enrichment program. TGA’s five-level program brings the golf course to school with specially designed equipment for indoor or outdoor golf. Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers. All equipment is provided.

BASKETBALL SCRIMMAGE ---Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $115
Play like a pro! Your classmates become your teammates on the court as you scrimmage against one another. Scrimmage games are used to create chemistry between new teammates, practice plays and evaluate skill in a game environment. Coach Jeremy Daniels has almost ten years of experience and conducts camps and clinics across the country.

AIRPLANES ---Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $77
We will begin to understand the forces of lift, drag, thrust, and gravity while learning about the history of flight to come up with a high-flying design of our own! Challenge your friends to see whose plane will fly the farthest.

YOYS ---Grades: 2-5 -- Fee: $100
Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyos, learn tricks and more. Instructor, Jess Gracia, has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for over 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyo’s in this class. No experience required.

Master your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer designed projects such as: Catapults, Pneumatic Cranes, Arch Bridges, and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.


Instructional CHESS - Semester class, ends 12/17
Tuesdays, 3:00-4:00pm
- Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $110

Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary. Students build strategy and play games. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. KenLarsen, an instructor for over 30 years and a competitive chess player, has led CFSD students.

Tournament CHESS - Semester class, ends 12/17

For the chess player who is interested in building skills in tournament play. Students build strategy and play games. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. Taught by instructor Ken Larsen

Tuesdays, August 13 and 20---3:00-5:45pm

Students between the ages of 9 and 15 (if 14 years-old on January 1, 2019) in Grades 4 through 10 have the opportunity to participate in the international FIRST LEGO LEAGUE(FLL) robotics competition season. This year, teams will design and build a LEGO Mindstorms robot to accomplish tasks related to the City Shapertheme and propose a solution to one of the many challenges facing communities now and in the future.

Students who are interested in being on an FLL team must attend a 2-session FLL PREVIEW CLASS. The Preview Classallows students to try the teamwork, engineering, programming and research tasks involved in preparing for a regional robotics competition in late November or early December. Teamsfor the full competition season are organized from the FLL PREVIEW CLASS participants. Team membership requires excitement about and focus and persistence in meeting challenges, willingness to learn and work with others toward team goals, and commitment to the schedule of weekly meetings. (Attendance at extra sessions is optional.) Teams may advance from regional to state competition in January and to international events in April or May. The FLL Robotics program is supervised by Charlotte Ackerman and Kelly Taylor, CFSD Teacher Leaders for Science and Engineering Practices in partnership with teachers, high school mentors, parents and community members. The fullCity ShaperFLL season team meetings for each school will begin the week of August 26, 2019 and continue on the same days through the second week in December. Full season price: $250


Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm

KidStage Drama Workshop Our fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought-provoking and stimulating theater games and activities!. No

acting or theater experience is necessary and first-time students are encouraged to attend.

Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm Grades: 3-5 --- Fee: $81

Learn the skills and techniques to master this field favorite and fulfill your enthusiasm for physical fitness and sportsmanship. Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-wide event. Participants will also receive a team shirt.

Thursdays, 4:30-6:00pm Grades: 1-5 This is a SEMESTER class and runs through 12/19. Goshinjitsu is a practical self-defense art that combines elements of Karate, Judo and Jujitsu into a simple and effective form of martial arts. Classes emphasize traditional martial arts values and principles. Instructor, John McGraugh, has been teaching for Community Schools for many years and studied in Japan for five years.

Fridays, 3:00-4:00pm
Grades: K-3 --- Fee: $120

Explore the magical world of unicorns, mermaids/mans, and so much more! We will create crafts and learn about magical creatures that exist in our own imaginary worlds.
