This four-week class, March 31 - April 21,  gives students the opportunity to extend their learning in robotics and explore new engineering and programming strategies.  It introduces them to the mission challenges that FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) teams will meet in the fall competition season.  Participants will work individually and in teams to build with LEGOS, program the EV3 robot and accomplish missions.

Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.  

Fourth Quarter - March 16 - May 15

Early Release ---Thursdays, 1:30-3:00pm

CRAZY CRITTERS ---Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $150
Get up close with and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

CAPOEIRA ---Grades: K-3 -- Fee: $150 
Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art/dance form, improves physical and mental strength, encourages creativity while increasing agility and confidence. Instructor Anne Pollack has trained in Capoeira for over 22 years.

KIDZART -- Grades: 1-5 ---Fee: $172
A KidzArt certified instructor will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Our curriculum never repeats! No art experience necessary.

TGA GOLF -- Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $205
Tee it up this spring with Teach, Grow, Achieve (TGA), a national after-school sports enrichment program. TGA’s five-level program brings the golf course to school with specially-designed equipment for indoor or outdoor golf. Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers. All equipment is provided.

BASKETBALL BASH ---Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $115 
Play like a pro! Your classmates become your teammates on the court as you scrimmage against one another. Scrimmage games are used to create chemistry between new teammates, practice plays and evaluate skill in a game environment. New this quarter: Basketball Bash! We will celebrate the end of the session with an evening of basketball at our CFSD High School Gym. You will compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-wide event.

ROCKETS ---Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $80 
Build it, decorate it, and launch it! Rocketry introduces students to the wonderful world of science and physics with high flying results! The sky is the limit with rocketry. Instructor, Ron Mealka, has a degree in Elementary Education and a passion for aircraft and model rocketry.

PLAYWELL ---Grades: K-2 and 3-5 -- Fee: $150
STEM Fundamentals using LEGO Materials Level up your engineering skills with Play-Well  TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineerdesigned projects such as: Castles, Airplanes, and Scissor Lifts. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas.

After School -


YO-YOS      --Grades:  2-5  3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $100 
Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yo-yos, learn tricks and more. Instructor, Jess Gracia has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for over 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yo-yos in this class. 

NINJA WARRIOR      --Grades:  K-3   3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $115
Get ready for a challenge! This new class will give participants an opportunity to have fun testing their skills and abilities while going through various obstacles: Tunnel crawls, Cone weaves, Noodle crawls, Mat Rolls, Parachute runs and much more. Different course will be set up every day. Who will be Ninja Warrior of the day?


BEAT DROP KIDZ     Grades: K-5    3:00-4:15pm ---Fee: $121 
Beat Drop Kidz After School Program is a Hip Hop Dance Program that brings the fun of Hip Hop Dance directly into the schools! We teach Hip Hop in a Kid-Friendly & FUN way while teaching the “Code of Hip Hop” of “Peace, Unity, Love & Having Fun”. Students will learn several moves from various Urban Dance styles such as Popping, Break Dancing,Locking & More.

TGA TENNIS     Grades: K-5    3:00-4:00pm ---Fee: $205

Serve it up with tennis class and discover how fun and exciting tennis can be with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, forehand, backhand, volley, and serve. Students participate in STEAM labs that allow them to explore academic concepts like gravity, force, and spin through the game.


INTRAMURAL KICKBALL    3:00-4:00pm - Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $72

Learn the skills and techniques to master this field favorite and fulfill your enthusiasm for physical  fitness and sportsmanship. Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-wide event. Participants will also receive a team shirt.

Special Programs


March 9 - May 8    Tuesdays and Thursdays   3:45-5:15pm   
Grades: 5-12    Fee: $98
Folkstyle wrestling is coming to an end, and Freestyle season has begun! Join High School Coaches, Greg Bishop & Fountaine Villarreal as we learn the rules, basics, and fundamentals of Freestyle wrestling. Individual Freestyle tournaments are held at different high schools almost every weekend during the 4th quarter. This program will help prepare our wrestlers if they decide to participate in any of these individual tournaments.



Trips will depart from and arrive at Manzanita Elementary. Transportation for students enrolled in morning CARE will be provided to the field trip departure site.  ALL students should be picked up from Manzanita at the conclusion of the field trip.

Register by March 19. If you cancel prior to March $22 a $10 drop fee will be applied, no refunds after March 22, 2020.

WEDNESDAY, March 25      9:00 - 4:30pm    Fee: $60


Start the day at the driving range with a session at Top Golf. Practice your golfing skills while enjoying a prepaid lunch of chicken bites, mini hot dogs, jr. cheeseburger, grilled cheese or a breakfast plate. After a fun morning of golf, we will head to the movies to relax and watch the latest kid-friendly flick. Please bring $10 if you wish to purchase a kid's snack pack at the theatre.

THURSDAY, March 26          9:00 - 4:30pm     Fee: $75


Come join us and travel back in time of devotion. determination. courage and love at Medieval Times. We will watch the electrifying show of heroic knights on horseback facing their competition in games of rind pierce, flag toss and so much more! During the show we will enjoy our fourse-course dinner as the performance unfolds in front us.  

FRIDAY, March 27          9:00 - 4:30pm     Fee: $75


Come have a day full of fun as we adventure off to Phoenix to enjoy Jake's unlimited indoor amusement park. There will be a variety of funtastic things to do from arcade games, mini bowling and indorr rides. They even have a free unlimited buffet that is included in our visit.

Picacho Peak Hike - Monday, March 23
3-6 miles, 1000ft+ elevation change. Moderate physical exertion sustained for longer periods of time. Supportive soled shoes required. No flat soled shoes permitted.  Suitable for those with beginning to moderate outdoor experiences.

Spring is a great time to conquer the 1,500 ft peak of Picacho Peak State Park! Come enjoy the gorgeous views, take in the beauty of the seasonal wildflowers and learn about this area's unique geological significance. We will grill hot dogs and make s'mores over the fire after our hike! Pack list provided after registration.          Guides: Jessica Harris and Polly Tanner

Madera Canyon Hike - Tuesday, March 24
3 miles and 500ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled shoes permitted.

Did you know Madera means wood in Spanish? Come see this amazing wooded canyon that is one of the hottest spots for migrating birds in Southeastern Arizona, and the United States! We will identify as many trees and birds as we can on this day hike in the shade. We will grill hot dogs and make s'mores over the fire after our hike! Rincon Mountains Hike - Wednesday, March 25
3-6 miles, 1000ft+ elevation change. Moderate physical exertion sustained for longer periods of time. Supportive soled shoes required. No flat soled shoes permitted. Suitable for those with moderate outdoor experiences.

Spring is a great time to explore the Rincon Mountains! We will be navigating our way through Wild Horse Canyon as we surround ourselves with the beauty of the seasonal wildflowers, native birds, and local water spots. Make sure you pack a lunch! We will find a scenic spot to stop to eat and take in the beauty that surrounds us. Pack list provided after registration.      Guides: Jessica Harris and Polly Tanner
