Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

Building Your Wealth-Your Future-Your Choice 

Grades: 5      $69

You will learn the importance of saving and budgeting and the difference between a debit card and a credit card. You will gain the understanding of the importance of their choices for college and career and how debt can dramatically impact their financial future. We will also learn the difference between a checking account, savings account and an investment account and how they all play a role in your future financial success and wealth building. We will cover how to avoid identity theft and much much more.

Beginning Chess

Grades: K-5 3:30-4:30     $128.00

Safely have fun playing online chess games against friends! Students build strategy and play chess games online through an amazing program, ChessKid. A coach will assist students in matches against fellow friends and teach them different chess techniques. Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary.

KidStage: "The Lion King"

Grades: 2-5    3:30-4:30pm  $120      No class 2/22

When the King of the Pride Lands goes missing, his son must find himself and learn how to protect his land and his people. Follow Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumba, and a colorful cast of animals as they confront the evil Scar and his mangy pack of hyenas in a battle to get their kingdom back.  The participants will have a blast in this coming-of-age tale about what it means to believe in yourself, work together and trust in your friends.

KidStage is a theatre and acting class for kids! The curriculum includes concentration, teamwork, improvisation, movement, voice and basic theatre terminology. At the end of the class, KidStage kids will perform for peers and parents. All classes are taught by trained instructors, whose goal it is to teach your child about the excitement of theatre, improve your child’s self-confidence, and to provide a safe, fun and interesting environment. KidStage will strengthen your child’s confidence as well as build teamwork, leadership, reading, and vocabulary!

Vocal Lessons

Grades: 5     $88

Learn techniques for singing modern, popular styles of music. Discover how to sing with more power by learning to let go and work less! Gain a better understanding of your voice type, how it works and your range and how to extend that range. You will focus on exercises and apply them to short excerpts. All to choose your own song, work on it with what you learn and present your song at the end!

Advanced Chess

Grades: K-5     3:30-4:30    $120

Capoeira Mandinga

Grades: 1-5     3:30-4:30    $124

Class starts 1/14, no class 2/25, 2/26

Learn the flowing, beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira with Capoeira Mandinga Tucson. Students will learn kicks, escapes, and fluid moves that build mind and body strength, flexibility, and agility. Students also learn music that drives the energy of the Capoeira game. Capoeira increases balance, creativity, and confidence. Teachers Anne Pollack and Aidan Miller-Wells were honored with a 2019 Southwest Folklife Alliance Award. Aidan has trained capoeira over 12 years. Anne is the only master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian arts in the State of Arizona.

Scratch Programming

Grades: 2-5     3:15-4:45    $229

Class starts 1/14, no class 2/25, 2/26

This course introduces students to block-based programming and provides a fun way for young students to start thinking like a programmer as they explore and develop imaginative stories, animations and games using the Scratch programming environment. Students learn the concepts of motion, looks, sound, events, loops, conditionals, game mechanics, operators and variables as they develop computational thinking and understanding of sequencing, pattern recognition, abstraction and parallelism. No prior coding experience is required to participate in this course. A laptop or Chromebook with internet connectivity is required to participate in this course.

Basketball Skills w/ Mr. Remy 

Grades: 3-5   Mondays, 3:00-4:00pm   $80

Learn how to dribble, pass and shoot and Mr. Remy! You will learn the basic rules of basketball and how to work together as a team all while practicing sportsmanship. 

Beat Drop Kidz 

Grades: K-5   Tuesdays, 3:00-4:30pm   $100

Beat Drop Kidz After School Program is a Hip Hop Dance Program that brings the fun of Hip Hop Dance directly into the schools! We teach Hip Hop in a Kid-Friendly & FUN way while teaching the “Code of Hip Hop” of “Peace, Unity, Love & Having Fun”. Students will learn several moves from various Urban Dance styles such as Popping, Break Dancing, Locking & more!

Color Me Mine

Grades: K-5   Fridays, 3:00-4:30pm   $193

Every week the kids will experience working with wood, ceramic and clay using both acrylic and water-based paints.

Crazy Critters

Grades: K-5   Early Release Thursdays, 1:30-2:30pm   $112

No classes weeks of 1/18, 2/15, 2/22, 3/8

Meet and learn about different animals each week including goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, capybaras, porcupines, patagonian maras, reptiles and more!  We will do a craft and/or fun worksheets related to those animals and then have hands on time with them.

Cereative Kind 

Grades: 2-5    Tuesdays, 3:00-4:30pm   $155    (6-week workshop, ends 2/17)

Every week the students will participate in creating a varity of art work and crafts including; Mini Macrame Wall Hangings, Cacti Embroidery Hoops, Mini Fiber Art Rainbows and more in this six- week workshop, 1/12-2/17. 

Dramatic Exploration

Grades: K-5   Thursdays, 3:00-4:30pm   $154

Dramatic Exploration: Students will harness the power of their imaginations as they explore many facets of drama, including improv, scene building, storytelling, and creative movement. They will develop valuable skills like collaboration, public speaking, self-confidence, and the ability to think quickly and creatively; that will help them both on and off the stage.

Magic of Reading 

Grades: 2-4  Wednesdays, 3:00-4:15pm   $100

Welcome to this project-based online after school reading program for students who may want more exposure to reading. Reading is the gateway skill to all learning and it is important that children love to read. The "magic" in this program gives the children the opportunity to learn strategies in reading like decoding, comprehension, literary elements, fluency, key details, author's purpose and much more. Students will be taught a strategy and then have to produce something that shows understanding. Dr. Mary S. Florek is a Gifted Specialist in the Catalina Foothills School District. She has her master's in reading and her doctorate in curriculum and instruction. She is currently teaching grades 3-4-5 at Sunrise Drive and Canyon View Elementary. She loves both children and reading!

Playwell: Trnsportation Engineering

Grades: K-2   Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm   $186

Break the sound barrier on a supersonic jet, deliver cargo by train, and explore a swamp in your airboat. Build and create different modes of transportation out of more than 20,000 pieces of LEGO®, all while learning about the engineering concepts that make vehicles and vessels work.

Playwell: Trnsportation Engineering

Grades: 3-5   Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm   $186

Take a double decker bus ride through London, pilot a hovercraft over land and sea, and make important deliveries in a cargo plane. Learn about STEM concepts as we explore the various ways that we transport goods and people from place to place.

Skyhawks- Mini Hawks (Soccer, Track & Field, Baseball)

Grades: 3-5   Mondays, 3:00-4:30   $193

This multi-sport program was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of the sport are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.

Skyhawks- STEM Sports

Grades: 3-5   Thursdays, 3:00-4:30   $160

STEM Sports use sports as the real-life application to engage elementary and middle school-aged participants. Our double-play combination of physical activity and cognitive thinking provides a comprehensive, inquiry-based educational experience and a solution for crucial scene, technology, engineering and math (STEM) literacy for students. As a result, students develop: critical thinking, collaboration, creative problem-solving and leadership skills that can be applied throughout their education and future careers.

TGA Floor Hockey 

Grades: 3-5   Fridays, 3:00-4:30pm   $205    Begins 1/22

Take your best shot and discover how fun and exciting playing floor hockey can be with TGA! This modified version of ice hockey can be played in regular shoes on virtually any hard surface with a small ball and hockey sticks.

TGA Lacrosse

Grades: 3-5   Wednesdays, 3:00-4:30pm   $231    Begins 1/20

Catch the LAX fever with TGA and discover why Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing youth sports! This fun team game has origins as a tribal game played by Native Americans and features a stick with a netted racquet used to shoot a small ball into the opposing team’s net to score. Our programs maximize the fun by including an exciting mix of instruction, drills, and games to develop the fundamental lacrosse skills of cradling, passing, catching, shooting, and defending. Safety is the number one priority so TGA’s coaches are extensively screened and trained to lead age-appropriate activities and enforce a no-contact rule.

TGA Ultimate Disc

Grades: 3-5   Tuesdays , 3:00-4:30pm  $231

Discover the Spirit of the Game and how fun and exciting Ultimate Frisbee can be with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of throwing, catching, and marking.
