School Break Opportunities


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OUTDOORS

Our scale begins with one hikerhiker picturewhich means low to moderate exertion. Participants should be capable of moving or hiking for several hours at a stretch with short stops every hour. Participants should be in good health!

Our scale ends at four hikers hiker picturehiker picturehiker picturehiker picture,to which only the highly experienced outdoor enthusiast should register. Good health and hiking or backpacking experience is required. These trips may contain 6-8 hours of walking per day and often involves carrying your own gear. Participants must be able to carry up to a 30 lb pack for up to 5 miles throughout the duration of the hike, while maintaining the pace of the group.

 

Please read each trip description carefully and call us (520-209-7551) if you have questions before you register. We can help match your child with the correct trip for his/her level.

You do not need to be a professional athlete to take part in an adventure, but you do need to be an active person. A keen desire to learn, have fun, strong motivation, and a positive attitude are equally important to success!

Monday - December 19, 2022

Winter is the perfect time to conquer the 1500 ft peak of Picacho Peak State Park Come enjoy the gorgeous views and learn about this area's unique geological significance.  After our summit we will celebrate with s'mores before we head back home with stories of our adventure! Bring plenty of water, your lunch, snacks, and wear shoes with good tread.                                                                                                     Guides: Mary Grodman, Polly Tanner & Claire Yarrington.                                                                                          Grades: 4-8      Time: 8am-4pm       Fee: $80

 

Tuesday - December 20, 2022

Southern Arizona Hop-thru-History Geocaching Adventure    hiker picture

Bring the history of Southern Arizona alive with this adventure of geocaching. Telive the tales of the wild west and pick up some geocaching swag along the way! Brand new geo-cachers and old pros alike are welcome. We will start at the high school with a lesson in geocaching before heading off to Tombstone, "The town to tough to die!"  Bring plenty of water, your lunch, snacks, and wear shoes with good tread.      Guides: Mary Grodman, Polly Tanner & Claire Yarrington.                                                                                          Grades: 4-8      Time: 8am-4pm       Fee: $80


Wednesday - December 21, 202

Did you know Madera means wood in Spanish? Come discover this amazing wooded canyon sprinkled with bubbling springs! We will identify all the big trees and birds on this winter day hike to Bog and Kent Springs. Our hikes will also afford us long distance panoramic views of Baboquivari and Kitt Peak! We will grill hot dogs, drink hot chocolate and make s'mores over the fire after our hike. Wednesday - December 22, 202

Get ready to jit the trails and enjoy a day of winter hiking in Southern Arizona's Sky Islands. We will learn a few outdorr survival skills, observe wildlife, identify plants and animals and make some "Smores" while we learn about fire safety! Get your gear out, bring plenty of water, your lunch to eat on the hike, snacks, and wear shoes with good tread.                                                                                                                                Guides: Mary Grodman & Polly Tanner & Claire Yarrington                                                                                      Grades: 4-8      Time: 8am-4pm      Fee: $80

 

Half-Day Opportunities March 17

Peppersauce Caving for Manzanita and Sunrise Drive

Grades: 3-5       11:30am-6:00pm

Caving is an outdoor adventure you don't wabnt to miss! Spend your half day of school exploring the underground wonders of Peppersauce Cave. See coll cave formations, an underground lake, and shimmy your way through the rabbit hole! Learn why it is important to protect these natural wonders. Please wear very old clothes (you will get extremely muddy), bring a flashlight, change of clothes, garbage bag, lunch and plenty of water. Helmets and headlamps will be provided. 

NOTE: We will pick up your student at their elementary school and return them to Catalina Foothills High School  at 6:00PM. 

 Difficulty Level =hiker picturehiker picture Caving is hiking on all fours!             Fee: $70
