BADMINTON

Badminton is an indoor racquet sport, which promotes physical fitness and mental wellness. While it can be a causal activity, badminton is also a competitive sport! Since 1992, Badminton has been in the Summer Olympics! Besides numerous health benefits, badminton helps students learn good sportsmanship and team work. In this class, we will teach the basics of badminton, including the rules of the game, as well as useful techniques and strategies to play successfully. The class will cover gripping technique, basic footwork, serving, and basic badminton shots, such as drive, defensive high clear, drop shots, and smashing! This training and practice will help students develop hand-eye coordination, muscle memory for the various moves, and decision-making skills critical to game success.

 

PERSONAL FINANCE

Enthusiastic students who learn to speak out clearly and relate confidently with others will have an inside track to lifetime success. Our class is where all adolescents, from the shy to the outgoing can develop at their own pace, with plenty of positive encouragement while learning acting skills. At Drama Kids’ Acting Academy we use a progressive curriculum that allows students to have some serious fun, while also enabling them to develop: Acting skills, Monologue Skills, Public speaking skills, Creative Thinking Skills, Leadership Skills, Team Building Skills, Networking and Social Skills, Quick Thinking & Spontaneity, and Self Confidence and Self-Esteem! Our Acting Academy’s “secret sauce” is a fun, fast paced, and developmental curriculum that ensures happy and successful students. Students will present a play at the end of the session.  All students will have speaking roles.

The Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots youth leadership organization helps youth make a difference in the world! From service projects like feeding the homeless, working with the San Xavier Coop and volunteering at animal shelters, to education like visiting our local seed bank and learning about plastic in the ocean, to taking action like eliminating plastic bags from local stores and changing the way school cafeterias produce and dispose of waste, this club has the opportunity for all compassionate leaders to shine! This international organization empowers youth in all 50 states and 50 countries to use their voices and ideas to address the issues that matter most to them in their communities.  Since 1991, millions of students have taken on the challenge of making the world a better place for people, animals and the environment.

Roots & Shoots youth are not only the future…they are the present, and they are changing the world.

Have you ever thought of doing th news?  Ever wanted to work in front of or behind the camera of a news show?

Now is your chance!

This quarter, you and Mr. Millerwill be creating an after school group of students who will be reporting, editing and producing a news show for OGMS.  We will organize interviews with athletes, coaches, teachers & students.   We will cover school activities, edit content and produce 5 news broadcasts each week for viewing by the student body each morning.  Please do not sign up if you are just looking for a place to hang out with friends.  We will be working hard the entire time.  Everyone will have an important role and everyone will be relying on each other to get it done.  IF this sounds like an exciting opportunity for you, we will see you on March 10 for our first day of production!

The internet is a fixture of modern society and accessing it is one of the main uses of our computers and phones. In this course we will explore how websites are made with HTML and CSS, and we will create our own personal website to display on the internet. We will also learn the basics of JavaScript, the programming language that runs in web browsers. With JavaScript we will not only gain the ability to enhance our websites, we will become familiar with fundamental concepts that hold true for any programming language.

Students taking the course will learn beginner to advanced techniques in the world of photography and Adobe Photoshop editing. Skills in photography will include lighting techniques, composition, learning to shoot in manual mode, and much more! Skills in Adobe Photoshop will include enhancing photographs, working with creative filters and other great features. The instructor, Mr Jess, is a professional commercial photographer who has been photographing for nearly 35 years. Students can continue on in subsequent quarters to further gain more experience and learn more advanced techniques. Cameras for the students to use will be provided or bring your own to class!

Improvisational theatre, often called improvisation or improv, is the form of theater, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script. If you want to learn the art of improvisational comedy, improve your public speaking skills, massage your creativity, and laugh your head off, this is the class for you!

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  1. Completed Athletic Packets MUST be turned in to the Athletic Director prior to first day of practice. Students will not be allowed to practice without this paperwork turned in. Packets are available for download HERE, at the OG front office, or at our district office.
  2. The first week of practice is MANDATORY. During this time, we are placing students on teams, doing concussion training and other safety information is being shared, and we encourage your attendance.
  3. Grade checks will be performed mid-quarter. Students must have a passing grade in all classes to be eligible to play. Please see the Interscholastic/Intramural Sports Agreement in your Athletic Packet.

INTERSCHOLASTIC BASEBALL - BOYS (7, 8)

PLAY BALL!!!  Come out and join the 7th and 8th grade boys and practice catching, throwing, and batting skills. Teamwork and participation will be emphasized. Competition will take place against other schools in the Northwest League.

CO-ED INTERSCHOLASTIC WRESTLING (6, 7, 8)

All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, male or female, are invited to register.

To be a good wrestler, you do not need outstanding athletic ability, but, you must possess a good attitude for learning. Students will have the opportunity to compete against other schools in the Northwest League.

Freestyle Wrestling:  March 9 - May 8 - Grades 5 - 12  Folkstyle wrestling is coming to an end, and the Freestyle season has begun!  Join the High School Wrestling Coaches, Greg Bishop & Fontaine Contino Villarreal, as we learn the rules, basics, and fundamentals of Freestyle wrestling. Individual Freestyle tournaments are held at different high schools almost every weekend during the 4th quarter. This program, will help prepare our wrestlers, if they decide to participate in any of these individual tournaments. Wrestling Freestyle is very beneficial for the athletes that wrestle in Middle School and High School.
