Over one-half of Catalina Foothills School District middle school students participate in after-school enrichment activities and athletics offered through Community Schools.

Students can choose to join a school team, improve athletic skills, make new friends while learning something new or explore the great outdoors!

No matter what the interest, Community Schools offers fun and well-supervised after-school activities at Orange Grove Middle School!

Athletics at a Glance



Basketball - Boy’s 6th grade Intramural 2:45-4:15 pm

Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday Fee: $120

6th grade boys will have the opportunity to develop individual and team skills including dribbling and shooting, offensive and defensive techniques. Emphasis will be on teamwork, sportsmanship and participation.


Basketball - Boy’s 7th grade Monday-Thursday 2:45-4:15 pm

Basketball - Boy’s 8th grade Monday-Friday 2:45-4:15 pm

Fee: 7th Grade/Overflow $176        Fee: 8th Grade $215

Join the Orange Grove basketball team and build individual and team skills. Sportsmanship, teamwork, and participation will be emphasized. All registrants will try out and be assigned to either a 7th or 8th grade Basketball Team or to a 7th or 8th grade overflow team. Teams will compete against all of the teams in the Northwest League. These teams are for 7th and 8th grade students only. Coaches will have tournament dates and game information at a later date. Overflow team(s) may be added pending numbers and coaches available. NOTE: We will credit accounts for students assigned to the overflow team.


Boy’s 7th - 8th grade Basketball Overflow Team Information

Students who are not assigned to a 7th or 8th grade Basketball Team will be assigned to an overflow Basketball Team. The price and Schedule may vary depending on coach and gym availability.


Soccer - Girl’s 6th Grade Intramural 2:45-4:15 pm

Tuesday and Thursday Fee: $113

Girls in the 6th grade are invited to join the intramural Soccer team! Emphasis will be on team and individual skills, game strategies, participation and sportsmanship.


Soccer - Girl’s 7th-8th grade Interscholastic 2:45-4:15 pm

Monday - Thursday Fee: $169

Join the Orange Grove Soccer team and practice dribbling, passing, shooting, team skills, and strategies. Teamwork, sportsmanship, and participation will be emphasized. Teams will compete against all of the teams in the Northwest League. This teams are open to all 7th and 8th grade girls.


Kickball - Co-ed 6th-8th grade Intramural 2:45-4:15 pm

Monday and Wednesday Fee: $113

All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, male or female, are invited to register. Students will learn sportsmanship, team unity and work on skill improvement through game play.


Running Club - 6th-8th grade Coed 2:45-4:15 pm

Tuesday and Thursday Fee: $79

All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, male or female, are invited to register. To be a good wrestler, you do not need outstanding athletic ability, but, you must possess a good attitude for learning. This camp is to prepare for Interscholastic wrestling which will be offered in Quarter 3.


Tennis Camp - 6th-8th grade Coed 2:45-4:15 pm

Wednesday 7:30-9 AM Fee: $49

Learn skills, strategies, and drills to the team. Students are required to provide their own racquets.




Acting Academy with Drama Kids-Thursdays, 2:45-4:15  Grades 6-8  

Develop your acting skills as you collaborate with others student on a short play. Each class begins with fun theater games to build skills that will benefit you both on and off stage. After that, rehearsals take place in preparation for a performance at the end of the quarter.(Depending on the circumstances this might be shared virtually instead of our usual in person showcase.) There are no auditions and all students have speaking parts in the play!

Cheer - Tuesdays, 2:45-4:15 Grades 6-8 

Sunset Cheer will teach students the fundamentals of performing cheer, dances, jumps, motions, basic tumbling & stunting. Their experienced staff will also lead students through strengthening and agility exercises all while emphasizing teamwork and school spirit. This is a non-competitive squad that will bring kids together. Price includes a cheer shirt and bow. Please email: to email shirt size. 

Chess - Fridays, 2:45-3:45 Grades 6-8 

Students build strategy and play chess, and various chess games. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. Ken Larsen has been coaching chess teams for over 30 years, leading CFSD students to local, state and national tournaments. Students may go to study hall after chess until 4:15.

Creative Writing - Thursdays, 2:45-4:15 Grades 6-8 

Students will have the opportunity to share their writing and get feedback from peers and their teacher. All styles of writing are encouraged--poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, essay writing, and journalism will be covered and a school newsletter will be produced by the students.

D & D - Wednesdays, 7:30-9:00 am In-Person Grades 8-12  

Do you like monsters, medieval action, magic and high fantasy? Do you like using your imagination to create fun and interactive stories? Are you a seasoned Dungeon Master of a  fledgling? Teifling warlock just getting his first spell book? Come play dungeons and dragons and let's make a story worth telling.

Improv with Drama Kids - Wednesdays, 2:45-4:15    Grades 6-8     

Improvisation is an unscripted form of theater where the participants come up with everything on the spot. Scenes go from funny to funnier, all spurred by the creativity of the performers. Join us as we go over the basic principles of improv, and learn how to think quickly and creatively for any situation! Students will participate in classic improv games played by professionals around the world.

KidzArt - Wednesdays, 2:45-4:15 Grades 6-8 

Join us for a drawing-based art class that incorporates structured learning with individual expression. We seek to introduce students to a variety of art mediums through a "it doesn't have to be perfect" format that helps cultivate a life long love of art. Instructors guide students through a different project each day that includes explanation of artist terms and techniques related to the project and medium of the day. New projects every quarter and no art experience necessary!

Photography - Wednesdays, 7:30am-9:00am Grades 6-8 

Students taking the course will learn beginner to advanced techniques in the world of photography. Skills in photography will include lighting techniques, composition, learning to shoot in manual mode, and much more! The instructor, Mr Jess, is a professional commercial photographer who has been photographing for nearly 35 years. Students can continue on in subsequent quarters to further gain more experience and learn more advanced techniques. Cameras for the students to use will be provided or bring your own to class!

Science Olympiad - Wednesdays, 2:45-4:15 Grades 6-8 

Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets. Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group partnerships. Yearbook - Wednesdays, 2:45-4:15 Grades 6-8 

Come join the OGMS Yearbook so you can help design and create a fantastic yearbook. The design, development, layout and picture taking are all done by the students in our Yearbook class. Pictures are taken not only during club, but also during the school day Monday through Friday. Students are encouraged to check cameras out during a free period and take pictures in their classroom or around campus of students, teachers and special events. There are three deadlines for pages to be submitted for our book. The first is in January, the second in February and the last is a hard deadline, usually the middle of March. Due to these deadlines, we cannot have new students join the club in the third quarter! Student commitment is necessary, but not mandatory, for all three quarters.


Study Hall - Monday - Friday, 2:45-4:15 and Wednesday morning 7:30-9:00am

Fee: $7.88 per day (1.5 hrs)

Sign up by Sunday evening for the upcoming week. All months open to schedule.
