Drama Kids’ specialty is using a wide range of unique drama activities to focus the bold, outspoken tween or teen and to draw out the quiet or the inarticulate adolescent and help them reach into themselves to discover their full potential. Join us to develop your acting skills, monologue Skills, public speaking skills, team building skills and more! Our Acting Academy’s “secret sauce” is a fun, fast paced, and developmental curriculum that ensures happy and successful students. Students will present the play Storyland Idol – a spoof on American Idol (no singing required). All students will have speaking roles.

Improvisational theatre, often called improvisation or improv, is the form of theater, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script.

If you want to learn the art of improvisational comedy, improve your public speaking skills, massage your creativity, and laugh your head off, this is the class for you! Join us this Fall!

Students taking the course will learn beginner to advanced techniques in the world of photography and Adobe Photoshop editing. Skills in photography will include lighting techniques, composition, learning to shoot in manual mode, and much more! Skills in Adobe Photoshop will include enhancing photographs, working with creative filters and other great features. The instructor, Mr. Jess, is a professional commercial photographer who has been photographing for nearly 35 years. Students can continue on in subsequent quarters to further gain more experience and learn more advanced techniques. Cameras for the students to use will be provided or bring your own to class!

CFSD Community Schools offers students between the ages of 9 and 15 (if 14 years-old on January 1, 2019) in Grades 4 through 10 the opportunity to participate in the international FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) robotics competition season. This year, teams will design and build a LEGO Mindstorms robot to accomplish tasks related to the City Shaper theme and propose a solution to one of the many challenges facing communities now and in the future.

Students who are interested in being on an FLL team must attend a 2-session FLL PREVIEW CLASS.The Preview Class allows students to try the teamwork, engineering, programming and research tasks involved in preparing for a regional robotics competition in late November or early December.Teams for the full competition season are organized from the FLL PREVIEW CLASS participants. Team membership requires excitement about and focus and persistence in meeting challenges, willingness to learn and work with others toward team goals, and commitment to the schedule of weekly meetings.(Attendance at extra sessions is optional.) Teams may advance from regional to state competition in January and to international events in April or May.

The FLL Robotics program is supervised by Charlotte Ackerman and Kelly Taylor, CFSD Teacher Leaders for Science and Engineering Practices in partnership with teachers, high school mentors, parents and community members. Volunteers can indicate their interest in helping by sending in the volunteer form attached to your Q1 brochure or picked up from our Community Schools office at 2101 E. River Rd.

The days and times for the PREVIEW CLASSES:

  • Esperero, Orange Grove and CFHS – Friday, August 16 and 23 at 3:00-5:45
  • ECMS and OGMS students can arrange to ride a school bus to Sunrise Drive School by requesting a bus pass when registering.

Spend the half day with us as we enjoy some quiet study or reading time, get outside in the great spring weather, enjoy some fun art projects, play games and spend some time with our friends! Remember to bring your lunch! Students can be picked up at any time during the program.

Meet us outside the commons at school dismissal.

Study hall is a quiet place for your student to catch up on homework, work on a school project, or just sit and read a good book.  Sign up rules:  register for any day or the whole year, registration stays open until noon the day of.  A late/drop in fee after noon on the day of is $15 plus the class fee of $4.  Students are not permitted to stay after school unless they are signed up for one of our programs.  If they show up to study hall without being enrolled, he/she will be placed on a drop in list, assessed a $15 drop in fee, and the $4 cost of the class.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  1. Completed Athletic Packets MUST be turned in to the Athletic Director prior to first day of practice. Students will not be allowed to practice without this paperwork turned in. Packets are available for download HERE.
  2. The first week of practice is MANDATORY. During this time, we are placing students on teams, doing concussion training and other safety information is being shared, and we encourage your attendance.
  3. Grade checks will be performed mid-quarter. Students must have a passing grade in all classes to be eligible to play. Please see Pg. 1 of the Interscholastic/Intramural Sports Agreement in your Athletic Packet.
