Students can choose to join a school team, improve athletic skills, make new friends while learning something new or explore the great outdoors!

Study Hall Rules:  Study hall is a quiet place for your student to catch up on homework, work on a school project or just sit and read a book.  Register for any day or for the whole year!  Registration stays open until noon the day of, but same day registrations will result in a late/drop in fee of $15 plus the class fee of $4. Students are not permitted to stay after school unless they are signed up for one of our programs.  If they show up to study hall without being enrolled, he/she will be placed on a drop in list, assessed a $15 drop in fee, and the $4 cost of the class.                                            Yearbooks!  $39.00  Regular price $49.00 October 15 - Dec 20  Buy Early.  After December 20, availability will be limited.

ACTING ACADEMY

Enthusiastic students who learn to speak out clearly and relate confidently with others will have an inside track to lifetime success. Drama Kids’ specialty is using a wide range of unique drama activities to focus the bold, outspoken tween or teen and to draw out the quiet or the inarticulate adolescent and help them reach into themselves to discover their full potential. Join us to develop your acting skills, monologue Skills, public speaking skills, team building skills and more! Our Acting Academy’s “secret sauce” is a fun, fast paced, and developmental curriculum that ensures happy and successful students. Students will present the play Storyland Idol – a spoof on American Idol (no singing required). All students will have speaking roles.



 

BADMINTON

Badminton is an indoor racquet sport, which promotes physical fitness and mental wellness. While it can be a causal activity, badminton is also a competitive sport!  Since 1992, Badminton has been in the Summer Olympics! Besides numerous health benefits, badminton helps students learn good sportsmanship and team work. In this class, we will teach the basics of badminton, including the rules of the game, as well as useful techniques and strategies to play successfully. The class will cover gripping technique, basic footwork, serving, and basic badminton shots, such as drive, defensive high clear, drop shots, and smashing! This training and practice will help students develop hand-eye coordination, muscle memory for the various moves, and decision-making skills critical to game success.

 

TAEKWONDO WELLNESS

Taekwondo Wellness teen classes continue to instill a love for martial arts and improve coping skills and mental skills. These mental skills will help teens at home, school, in sport, and as they transition into adulthood by adopting a growth mindset that instills perseverance in the face of life’s challenges. Taekwondo Wellness teen classes are an alternative exercise and wellness class that welcomes children with or without mental health diagnosis.

 

INTRO TO PYTHON

The Introduction to Python Programming course lays a strong foundation of fundamental concepts of computer programming. The course follows a hands-on approach with heavy focus on implementation of coding concepts via activities and projects where students work with the instructor to create fun and imaginative graphics, animations and games. The project-based teaching methodology builds computational thinking, inspires creativity, hones analytical thinking and problem solving skills and prepares students to thrive in next generation careers. The course is divided into a series of modules including code design and debugging, syntax, data types, user interactions, math & string operations, conditionals, loops, error handling, functions and collections. This course does not require prior coding experience. This course is offered in live virtual classroom using Zoom video conferencing.

Improvisational theatre, often called improvisation or improv, is the form of theater, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script.

If you want to learn the art of improvisational comedy, improve your public speaking skills, massage your creativity, and laugh your head off, this is the class for you!

Students taking the course will learn beginner to advanced techniques in the world of photography and Adobe Photoshop editing. Skills in photography will include lighting techniques, composition, learning to shoot in manual mode, and much more! Skills in Adobe Photoshop will include enhancing photographs, working with creative filters and other great features. The instructor, Mr. Jess, is a professional commercial photographer who has been photographing for nearly 35 years. Students can continue on in subsequent quarters to further gain more experience and learn more advanced techniques. Cameras for the students to use will be provided or bring your own to class!

Come join the ​OGMS Yearbook ​so you can help design and create​ a fantastic yearbook for Orange Grove.  The design, development, layout and picture taking are all done by the students in our ​Yearbook ​class.  Pictures are taken not only during club, but also during the school day Monday through Friday.  Students are encouraged to check cameras out during a free ​period​​​​ and take pictures in their classroom or around campus of students, teachers and special events.  There are three deadlines for pages to be submitted for our book. The first is in January, the second in February and the last is a hard deadline, usually the middle of March.  Due to these deadlines, we cannot have new students join the club in the third quarter!  Student commitment is necessary, but not mandatory, for all three quarters.  The cl​ass​ is limited to 15 students. 

MONEY MANAGEMENT & FINANCIAL LIFE SKILLS FOR MIDDLESCHOOLERS

Students will learn the importance of saving and budgeting and the difference between a debit card and a credit card.  They will understand the importance of their choices for college and career and how debt can dramatically impact their financial future. The students will be taught the difference between a checking account, savings account and an investment account and how they all play a role in their future financial success and wealth building.  We will cover how to avoid identity theft and much much more!

Join us for a drawing-based art class that incorporates structured learning with personal instruction. Instructor will guide students through a different project each day that includes explanation of artist terms and techniques related to the project and medium of the day. We focus on the creative process that encourages students to explore and grow. Our curriculum never repeats and no art experience necessary.

 

 

CHESS CLUB

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  1. Completed Athletic Packets MUST be turned in to the Athletic Director prior to first day of practice. Students will not be allowed to practice without this paperwork turned in. Packets are available for download HERE.
  2. The first week of practice is MANDATORY. During this time, we are placing students on teams, doing concussion training and other safety information is being shared, and we encourage your attendance.
  3. Grade checks will be performed mid-quarter. Students must have a passing grade in all classes to be eligible to play. Please see Pg. 1 of the Interscholastic/Intramural Sports Agreement in your Athletic Packet.
