Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

ARTS and CRAFTS--Grades: K-5-- Fee: $96
Come let your creativity soar with the very talented Vanessa Coelho. Each week students will be work on an entirely new craft or art project that they get to take home.

CHESS---Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $72--- NOTE: Class ends at 2:35
No prior experience is necessary. Instruction begins at the child’s entry level. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Optional participation in weekend league tournaments will be discussed in chess meetings. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. He has led CFSD students to local, state and national tournaments.

CRAZY CRITTERS--Grades: K-5-- Fee: $150
Get up close with, and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

BrainSTEM: --Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $205
BrainSTEM brings the lab to you! After-school labs give students hands-on science experiences that relate to the world they live in. BrainSTEM is about critical thinking, problem solving, and learning by doing. Come explore the world of science!

PLAY-WELL- Harry Potter Magical Engineering --Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $150
Explore the magic of Harry Potter using LEGO®! Find Platform 9 ¾, build Hogwarts Express Train, work cooperatively to construct the mysterious Hogwarts Castle, and soar on the wings of a Hungarian Horntail Dragon. Travel to a world of wizardry and hone your magical skills while learning about Muggle (STEM) concepts.

BASKETBALL BASH: --Grades: 2-5 -- Fee: $120
Get exercise, learn teamwork, build confidence and have fun! Instructor, Jeremy Daniels, is a skill development trainer and coach for 3x Threat Athletics. New this quarter: Basketball Bash! We will celebrate the end of the session with an evening of basketball at our CFSD High School Gym. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-Wide Event.

ADVANCED ROCKETRY: --Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $150
Advance your rocketry skills by building and flying 3 model rockets, including one that can fly a raw egg and return to Earth unbroken! Along the way, you'll have supervised instruction in model building, including the use of wood glue, (non-toxic) plastic cement, scissors, hobby knives, knot tying, spray paint, and decals. After flying up to 8 flights, you'll leave the class with the 3 model rockets you built, your own launch pad and controller, a field box to hold your equipment, and the knowledge of how to safely build and fly model rockets!

After School 3:00-4:00 unless noted, No class 1/21, 2/21 & 2/22

KID STAGE PERFORMANCE --Tuesdays --Grades:K-5 --Fee: $166
Join KidStage in preparing a performance of Beauty and the Beast! Would you be able to find beauty....in a beast? Join Belle, a simple country girl, and a colorful cast of characters and she embarks on the biggest adventure of her life. Finding herself alone in a dark and scary castle, Belle meets the Beast, an intimidating monster who's not exactly polite. Follow their journey to friendship as Belle realizes that what truly matters is the beauty you possess inside. This hilarious adaptation has fantastic roles for boys and girls. Learn Stage directions, lines, and the ins and outs of being in a play!

YOYO's ---Tuesdays ---Grades: 2-5 ---Fee: $93
Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyo, learn tricks and much more. Instructor Jess Gracia has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyo’s in this class. No experience is required.

SEWING CLUB ---Wednesdays ---Grades: K-3 ---Fee: $112
Join us to learn the beautiful art of sewing! Learn how to use the sewing machine, to cut patterns, essential construction skills and finishing techniques! Clothes, bags, pillow cases, designing and applying appliqués and even more are at your fingertips to create! Sewing machines will be provided!

FIRST Lego League LITE ---Wednesdays---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $80
This five-week class gives students the opportunity to extend their learning in robotics and explore new engineering and programming strategies. It introduces them to the mission challenges that FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) teams will meet in the fall competition season. Participants will work individually and in teams to build with LEGOS, program the EV3 robots and accomplish missions. Class will meet on 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, & 5/1.

INTRAMURAL KICKBALL ---Fridays---Grades: 3-5 --- Fee: $72
Learn the rules of the game and practice one day per week after school for the spring season. Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-Wide event on Saturday May 11th.

STEEL DRUMS --- Grade 5 ---Thursdays, 4:15 - 5:15pm ---Fee: $56
This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary. Student's fees cover a t-shirt, mallets, music and music binder. Ms. Moore

Patagonia Fun & Fishing ---Grades: 3-5
*Pick up at your elementary school and drop off at Catalina Foothills High School

Come spend the day with us exploring Patagonia Lake State Park in SE Arizona! We will discuss native fish as we learn how to bait and cast. And then test our patience trying to catch a few! This is a spectacular riparian area too! Over 106 species of birds, 49 species of damsel and dragonflies and 130 butterfly species. March is a great time to Get Outside with Community Schools Outdoors!

Monday - Wednesday, March 25-27

Adventures in Verde Valley ---Grades: 4-8
*Depart Catalina Foothills High School at 9am Monday and return Wednesday, 5pm.

3 miles and 500ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled shoes permitted.

Join us this spring break as we head to the beautiful Verde Valley in Cottonwood, Arizona! Camping at Dead Horse Ranch State Park, bird watching near the Verde River, hikes with views into the Red Rocks of Sedona and a visit to an ancient pueblo in Tuzigoot National Monument! This trip is packed with fun, adventure and education! Enjoy 3 days filled with many opportunities to learn new skills, work as a team and make new friends!

A detailed trip itinerary & equipment list will be provided prior to departure. Be sure to register early! Trip size limited to 10 students!
