Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CHESS---Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $72--- NOTE: Class ends at 2:35

No prior experience is necessary. Instruction begins at the child’s entry level. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Optional participation in weekend league tournaments will be discussed in chess meetings. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. He has led CFSD students to local, state and national tournaments.

CRAZY CRITTERS--Grades: K-5-- Fee: $150
Get up close with, and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

KIDZART--Grades: K-3-- Fee: $168
With the perfect mix of instruction and creative freedom, each KidzArt class results in wonderfully unique art masterpieces where our KidzArtists’ inspiration brings works of art to life. All quality artist materials are provided.

BASKETBALL: --Grades:3-5 -- Fee: $115
Play like a pro! Develop and practice your skills through systematic learning while getting exercise, experiencing teamwork, and building confidence. Coach Jeremy Daniels has almost ten years of experience and conducts camps and clinics across the country.

PLAY-WELL- INTRO TO STEM, MINECRAFT: --Grades: K-2 -- Fee: $150
Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO® materials or a seasoned veteran, you'll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

YOYOS: --Grades: 2-5 -- Fee: $93
Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyo, learn tricks and much more. Instructor Jess Garcia, has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyo’s in this class. No experience is required.

KID STAGE: TROLLS --Wednesdays --Grades:K-5 --Fee: $172 --
Our fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought-provoking and stimulating theater games and activities! No acting or theater experience is necessary and first-time students are encouraged to attend.

INTRAMURAL SOCCER ---Thursdays ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $81
Learn the rules of the game and practice one day per week after school for the spring season. Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-Wide event on Saturday, December 15th.

TGA FLAG FOOTBALL ---Tuesdays ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $205
Kick it off with this modified version of America’s game that makes it fun and exciting to play with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of passing, catching, running, and defending.

STEEL DRUMS --- Grade 5 ---Thursdays, 4:15 - 5:15pm ---Fee: $55
This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary. Student's fees cover a t-shirt, mallets, music and music binder. Ms. Moore

FALL BREAK OUTDOORS

**IMPORTANT**

Lunch is NOT provided on Trips. Please provide a sack lunch and water bottle for these days. All Field Trips leave from and return to Catalina Foothills High School. Trips are only open to 4th and 5th graders.

Caving - 11:30AM - 6:00PM --- Fee: $65
Half-Day Outdoor Trips: 10/8, 10/9 (11:30AM - 6:00PM) Fee includes transportation to the trip site from your child’s school and parent pick-up at Catalina Foothills High School

Less than 3 miles and 500ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled shoes permitted.

Caving is like hiking on all fours! Spend the afternoon exploring the underground wonders of Peppersauce Cave. See cool cave formations, an underground lake, and shimmy your way through the rabbit hole! Learn why it is important to protect these natural wonders. Please wear very old clothes (you will get extremely muddy), bring a flashlight, change of clothes, garbage bag, sack lunch and water. Helmets and headlamps will be provided. Guide: Mary Grodman. 4th and 5th Grade

Adventures in Patagonia - Thursday, October 11th 9:00AM - Friday, October 12th 4:00PM
Overnight Outdoor Trip: 10/11 - 10/12 (Thursday, 9:00AM - Friday, 4:00PM) Drop-off and Pick-up at Catalina Foothills High School. (No CARE transportation will be provided)

3-6 miles, 1000ft elevation change. Moderate physical exertion sustained for longer periods of time. Supportive soled shoes required. No flat soled shoes permitted. Suitable for those with beginning to moderate outdoor experiences.

Get ready for some hiking, fishing, creek exploration and camping fun! Prepare to get your feet wet when we spend our first day hiking in the Sonoita Creek State Natural Area! Enjoy a spectacular riparian area and discover over 106 species of birds, 49 species of damsel and dragonflies and over 130 butterfly species!! Work up an appetite as we head back to camp to play games, cook dinner, do some stargazing and get ready for a well-needed night's sleep in the campground. Wake up on Friday for some breakfast and then some time fishing in Patagonia Lake. Students must wear sturdy shoes with good tread meant for outdoor use that can get wet! A detailed overnight itinerary & supply list will be provided prior to departure. Guide: Mary Grodman. 4th and 5th Grade
