Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs.
Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CHESS---Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $63--- NOTE: Class ends at 2:35

No prior experience is necessary. Instruction begins at the child’s entry level. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Optional participation in weekend league tournaments will be discussed in chess meetings. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. He has led CFSD students to local, state and national tournaments.

CRAZY CRITTERS--Grades: K-5-- Fee: $138
Get up close with, and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

KIDZART --Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $150
A KidzArt certified instructor will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Our curriculum never repeats! No art experience necessary.

BRAINSTEM --Grades:K-2 -- Fee: $150
BrainSTEM brings the lab to you! After-school labs give students hands-on science experiences that relate to the world they live in. BrainSTEM is about critical thinking, problem solving, and learning by doing.

TGA FLAG FOOTBALL: --Grades:3-5 -- Fee: $205
Kick it off with this modified version of America’s game that makes it fun and exciting to play with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of passing, catching, running, and defending.

BASKETBALL BASH: --Grades:3-5 -- Fee: $100
Get exercise, learn teamwork, build confidence and have fun! Instructor, Jeremy Daniels, is a skill development trainer and coach for Triple Threat Basketball. New this quarter: Basketball Bash! We will celebrate the end of the session with an evening of basketball at our CFSD High School Gym. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-wide event on May 17th from 6-8pm. Bring your family and friends to cheer you on and check out your basketball skills.

KIDSTAGE WORKSHOP --Tuesdays --Grades:K-5 --Fee: $79 --Six-week class, ends on May 1
KidStage Drama Workshop Our fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought-provoking and stimulating theater games and activities! The participants will meet with our Instructor for 6 weeks of an hour long jam-packed after-school fun. No acting or theater experience is necessary and first-time students are encouraged to attend.

INTRAMURAL KICKBALL ---Tuesdays ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $68
Learn the skills and techniques to master this schoolyard favorite and fulfill your enthusiasm for physical fitness and sportsmanship.Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-wide event on May 19th. Participants will also receive a team shirt.
YOYOS ---Tuesdays ---Grades: 2-5 ---Fee: $93
Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyo, learn tricks and more. Instructor, Jess Gracia, has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for over 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyos in this class. No experience required.
FREESTYLE WRESTLING at Esperero Canyon Middle School ---Tuesday and Thursday
Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $96

Join us at ECMS for freestyle wrestling, a different style of wrestling than is normally taught during the season! This class will give students an opportunity to try out wrestling, without fully committing to the sport. It will also allow veteran wrestlers to continue to improve their skills for future wrestling seasons. This camp will mostly focus on having fun and learning without the stress of competition. If the wrestlers would like to compete there are optional weekend tournaments!
Lead by Coach Abushaar.

FIRST Lego League LITE---Wednesdays, 3:00-5:00 --Grades: 3-5 --Fee: $80 ---March 21 - April 18

This four-week class will introduce students to the skills needed and real world challenges involved in the annual FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) international robotics competition. Participants will work individually and collaboratively to explore EV3 programming, build arms and attachments to accomplish missions, and problem-solve. The class is an opportunity for students to extend their learning in robotics, try new programming and engineering strategies, and consider the issues that students around the world will address in the 2018 FLL "Into Orbit" season. CFSD's two Teacher Leaders for Science and Engineering Practices, Charlotte Ackerman and Jennifer DeBenedetti, will lead the classes at their schools.

PLAYWELL INTRO TO STEM---Thursdays -- Grades: K-2 --Fee: $150

NEW CURRICULUM! Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as: Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults, and Merry-Go-Rounds. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.

TGA FLOOR HOCKEY Grades: 3-5 -- Thursdays ---Fee: $205

Certified coaches will help students develop fundamental skills while using the sport to teach valuable life lessons including perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship. Students will also participate in STEAM labs that all them to explore academic concepts like gravity, geometry, and force through the game.

STEEL DRUMS BEGINNING at Canyon View 4:15 - 5:15---Grades: 5--Thursdays ---Fee: $56

This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary.Student's fees cover a t-shirt, music and music binder. Ms. Moore-

Friday, March 16th - Caving Adventures

Less than 3 miles and 500ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled shoes permitted.Caving is like hiking on all fours! Spend the afternoon exploring the underground wonders of Peppersauce Cave. See cool cave formations, an underground lake, and shimmy your way through the rabbit hole! Learn why it is important to protect these natural wonders. Please wear very old clothes (you will get extremely muddy), bring a flashlight, change of clothes, garbage bag, sack lunch and water. Helmets and headlamps will be provided. 11:30AM - 6PM Guides: Mary Grodman & Polly Tanner Fee: $65


April 2nd - 4th - Adventures in Red Rock Country 4th-8th

Join us on your spring break to discover natural wonders as we hike, camp and explore Coconino National Forest! Students will enjoy hiking along the amazing calcium laden waters of Fossil Creek discovering its unique ecosystem. Spend a day in the most beautiful place on earth - Sedona! On our way home stop at the park that has been in the making for 1000 years, Tonto Natural Bridge, the largest natural travertine bridge in the world. Enjoy 3 days filled with fun, adventure, many opportunities to learn new skills, work as a team and make new friends! A detailed trip itinerary & equipment list will be provided prior to departure. Trip size limited to 10 students.
