Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CHESS 1:35-2:35pm (NOTE ending time) --Grades: K - 5 Fee: $72
Open to all ability levels, no prior experience necessary. Students build strategy and play games. Opportunities for optional weekend tournaments. Ken Larsen, an instructor for over 30 years and a competitive chess player, has led CFSD students to victories at local, state and national tournaments. REGISTER NOW!
ANIMAL FRIENDS --Grades: K - 5 Fee: $136

Do you love animals? Join us for this class where a different animal friend will come to school each week to meet and help teach the class. We’ll learn all sorts of interesting facts like how far a rabbit can hop and what a goat eats. Staff from TRAK (Therapeutic Ranch for Animals and Kids) will guide you through hands-on activities with their animal friends!

PLAYWELL: Minecraft Engineering --Grades: K - 2 Fee: $150

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and the LEGO® building system or a seasoned veteran, you'll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

After School

DYNAMIC DANCE ---Grades: K - 2 ---Wednesdays -- Fee: $153

Have a blast dancing and learning during Dynamic Dance. In this dynamic after school program, students will learn the basics of Ballet and Jazz through stretching, across the floor exercises, dance and exciting games. No experience is required. 9 week class.---REGISTER NOW!

KIDSTAGE -- Fridays, October 20 - December 8 --Grades: K - 5-- Fee: $66

Our fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought-provoking and stimulating theater games and activities! The participants will meet with our Instructor for an hour of energetic, jam-packed fun after-school. No acting or theater experience is necessary. The children will participate in the program once a week for 6 sessions so there are no long commitments nor a requirement to spend time at home learning lines. 6 week class. REGISTER NOW!

YOYOS-- Tuesdays --Grades: K - 2-- Fee: $93

Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyo, learn tricks and more. Instructor, Jess Gracia, has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for over 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyos in this class. STEEL DRUMS BEGINNING at Canyon View 4:15 - 5:15 - Thursdays

This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary.Student's fees cover a t-shirt, music and music binder. 9 week class. CAPTURE THE FLAG INTRAMURAL - Tuesdays ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $75

Join your schoolmates for Capture the Flag! Come learn the rules, techniques and skills to compete against our other elementary schools to capture the flag and enjoy the fun. All ability levels are welcome to play. Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates.Bring your family and friends to cheer for you in the tournament on Saturday, December 16. Special Programs

FALL BREAK OUTDOORS

Caving - Monday, October 9

Less than 3 miles and 500ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled shoes permitted. Caving is like hiking on all fours! Spend the afternoon exploring the underground wonders of Peppersauce Cave. See cool cave formations, an underground lake, and shimmy your way through the rabbit hole! Learn why it is important to protect these natural wonders. Please wear very old clothes (you will get extremely muddy), bring a flashlight, change of clothes, garbage bag, sack lunch and water. For Sunrise and Manzanita students only. Departing at 11:30am
We will return to Sunrise and Manzanita afterwards.


Sabino Canyon Hike - Wednesday, October 11

Less than 3 miles and 370ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled soles permitted. Follow the fields of ferns, wildflowers and butterflies along Upper Sabino Canyon. This riparian area is home to a flowing Sabino Creek with life of all shapes and sizes. Please wear appropriate hiking clothes, bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. We will ride the tram on the way up and hike out. Grades: 4-5 Mary Grodman and Jamie Rowan, Guides
Fee: $35
For Ventana Vista and Canyon View students only. Departing at 11:30am.
We will return to Canyon View and Ventana Vista afterwards.
