Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs. Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CHESS---Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $63--- NOTE: Class ends at 2:35

No prior experience is necessary. Instruction begins at the child’s entry level. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Optional participation in weekend league tournaments will be discussed in chess meetings. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. He has led CFSD students to local, state and national tournaments.

CRAZY CRITTERS--Grades: K-5-- Fee: $130
Get up close with, and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

KIDZART--Grades: K-3-- Fee: $150
With the perfect mix of instruction and creative freedom, each KidzArt class results in wonderfully unique art masterpieces where our KidzArtists’ inspiration brings works of art to life. All quality artist materials are provided.

BrainSTEM: --Grades:K-5 -- Fee: $180
BrainSTEM brings the lab to you! After-school labs give students hands-on science experiences that relate to the world they live in. BrainSTEM is about critical thinking, problem solving, and learning by doing. Come explore the world of science!

PLAY-WELL- INTRO TO STEM --Grades: K-5 -- Fee: $130
The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO® materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire!

ROCKETRY: --Grades: 3-5 -- Fee: $63
Three! Two! One! BLAST OFF! Learn the fundamentals of flight, the physics of rocketry, and craft your very own rockets. Your instructor, James Cramton, is the current President of Southern Arizona Rocketry Association. He will lead the class in experiments with several different hands-on scientific exploration and model rocket construction activities. Take flight with us!

KID STAGE WORKSHOP --Tuesdays --Grades:K-5 --Fee: $79

6-week course, 1/8, 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12
This fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought-provoking, and stimulating games and activities!

INTRAMURAL TRACK ---Tuesdays ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $90
Learn the rules of the game and practice one day per week after school for the spring season. Build team spirit and camaraderie with your teammates. Compete against other CFSD elementary school teams in a District-Wide event on March 17.

YOYO's ---Tuesdays ---Grades: 2-5 ---Fee: $93
Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyo, learn tricks and much more. Instructor Jess Gracia has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyo’s in this class. No experience is required.

SEWING CLUB ---Wednesdays ---Grades: K-3 ---Fee: $150
Join us to learn the beautiful art of sewing! Learn how to use the sewing machine, to cut patterns, essential construction skills and finishing techniques! Clothes, bags, pillow cases, designing and applying appliqués and even more are at your fingertips to create! Sewing machines will be provided!

TGA FLAG FOOTBALL ---Wednesdays ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $205
Kick it off with this modified version of America’s game that makes it fun and exciting to play with TGA! Coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of passing, catching, running, and defending.

GOSHINJITSU-- Grades: 1-5- Thursdays, 4:30-6:00pm AT Sunrise Drive Elementary
Fee: $110--
Goshinjitsu is a practical self-defense art that combines elements of Karate, Judo and Jujitsu into a simple and effective form of martial arts. Classes emphasize traditional martial arts values and principles. Class meets at Sunrise Drive Elementary, must have your own transportation.

FOLK-STYLE WRESTLING 1st-8th **Fridays @ Orange Grove Middle**
Learn the skills of folk-style wrestling with Coach Foster. With experience coaching wrestling from kindergarten all the way through the college level. Coach Foster will teach you the all the basics of folk-style wrestling along with fun games along the way. Coach Foster's accomplishments include 4X All-State wrestler in high school and a two time All-American wrestler for Concordia University, Nebraska. All skill levels are welcome as well as parent volunteers.

STEEL DRUMS --- Grade 5 ---Thursdays, 4:15 - 5:15pm ---Fee: $56
This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary. Student's fees cover a t-shirt, mallets, music and music binder. Ms. Moore

Wednesday, December 26 - Reid Park Zoo $50

Lions, tigers, and bears oh my! Come with us as we venture to Reid Park Zoo to see animals from all over the world. We will meet with zoo staff as they takes us behind the scenes and up close with some of their favorite critters. Explore the interactive elephant park, conservation learning center, and even feed a giraffe. Please make sure to pack a lunch and water bottle.

Thursday, December 27 - Winter Fun and Movies $50

Get cozy at Sunrise Drive for a day of winter activities! Create winter-themed crafts, play indoor games, and enjoy our lovely winter weather outdoors. We’ll hop over to the movies to see Mary Poppins Returns. Please remember to bring a sack lunch and water. If you wish to purchase a snack at the movies, please send your student with eight dollars.

Friday, December 28 - Playground Fun, Bowling and Painting $50

We'll start off the morning playing on the Sunrise Drive playground. Then we will head to our favorite bowling alley for strikes, spares, arcade games, and a pizza lunch. Following we will be visited by the gifted artists Jessica to paint a canvas masterpiece. Please remember socks for the bowling alley.


Thursday, December 27 - Picacho Peak Hike $65

3-6 miles, 1000ft+ elevation change. Moderate physical exertion sustained for longer periods of time. Supportive soled shoes required. No flat soled shoes permitted. Suitable for those with beginning to moderate outdoor experiences.

Winter is a great time to conquer the 1,500 foot peak of Picacho Peak State Park! Come enjoy the gorgeous views, learn about this area's unique geological significance and varied desert growth. We will grill hot dogs and make S'mores over the fire after our hike! Pack list provided after registration!

3 miles and 500ft elevation change. Low to moderate physical exertion. Suitable for Beginners. No flat soled shoes permitted.

Did you know Madera means wood in Spanish? Come see this amazing wooded canyon that is one of the hottest spots for migrating birds in Southeastern Arizona, and the United States! We will identify as many trees and birds as we can on this day hike in the shade. We will grill hot dogs and make S'mores over the fire after our hike! Pack list provided after registration.

Patagonia Fun & Fishing Grades: 3-5th
*Pick up at your elementary school and drop off at Catalina Foothills High School

Come spend the day with us exploring Patagonia Lake State Park in SE Arizona! We will discuss native fish as we learn how to bait and cast. And then test our patience trying to catch a few! This is a spectacular riparian area too! Over 106 species of birds, 49 species of damsel and dragonflies and 130 butterfly species. March is a great time to Get Outside with Community Schools Outdoors!
