Currently there are still openings at Sunrise Drive and Ventana Vista for Kinder Plus however for Canyon View and Manzanita we are taking registrations to be entered on a wait list. Please fill out the registration form and turn in to the District Office, 2101 E. River Rd. Attention Community Schools.

Catalina Foothills Community Schools will be providing an optional half-day, tuition-based, Kindergarten Plus program, to complement the district’s half-day, state-funded, Kindergarten program, in the 2019-2020 school year. This program will meet the needs of families and children by providing a full day experience taught by a state certified Early Childhood teacher. Additionally all Kindergarten Plus classrooms include a teaching assistant. Children enrolled in Kindergarten Plus will be provided a curriculum aligned with the Catalina Foothills Envision 21: Deep Learning Kindergarten standards and will provide extended time for science experimentation, reading instruction and practice, as well as time to enhance skills such as problem solving, social interactions and technology applications.

Kindergarten Plus is a "first come, first serve" program within the registration time frames below there are no guaranteed spots the district will do its best to accommodate as many families as possible.

General Kindergarten Plus Information:

You are invited to attend an upcoming Kindergarten Show-n-Tell meeting at any of our four elementary schools. Information on the Kindergarten Plus Program and instructions on how to register will be discussed:

Canyon View Elementary : November 26 or January 14

Ventana Vista Elementary: December 4 or January 29

Manzanita Elementary: November 28 or January 30

Sunrise Drive Elementary: December 13 or January 17

Registration will occur according to the dates/guidelines below, a $75 registration fee and the first month's tuition of $290 will be collected at the time of registration.

In District Families
In district families' Kindergarten Plus applications will be considered first*
when submitted:
- starting November 26 at Canyon View.
-starting December 4 at Ventana Vista.
-starting November 28
at Manzanita.
-starting December 13
at Sunrise Drive.

*In district families registering for Kindergarten Plus by open enrolling to another school within Catalina Foothills School District will have their Kindergarten Plus applications processed in the first 10 business day period only if open enrolling to a Spanish or Chinese Immersion program.
If Open Enrolling to a non-immersion program, Kindergarten Plus applications will be queued with all other Open Enrollment Kindergarten Plus applications.

Open Enrollment Families
On the same starting dates listed above, open; however these registrations will be time/date stamped and queued for the initial two week registration window (10 business days) for each school. After such time applications will be considered for placement beginning :

-Canyon View Open Enrolled families': Tuesday, December 11
-Ventana Vista Open Enrolled families': Wednesday, December 19.
-Manzanita Open Enrolled families': Thursday, December 13
-Sunrise Drive Open Enrolled families': Friday, January 11

All Kindergarten Plus applications received after the corresponding time periods above, will be processed in the order that they were time/date stamped, regardless of in-district or open enrollment status.

To Register for Kinder Plus:

• If you have not registered for a CS activity in the current school year, you will create

an account with Community Schools and register here:

• A $75 registration fee and first month’s tuition of $290 will be collected at the time of

registration ($365 total), in order to secure a spot in a class.

• Open Enrolled families may reserve a spot in K+ prior to Open Enrollment acceptance.

• All registration fees and tuition payments are non-refundable, unless an Open Enrolled

family is denied the opportunity to attend their school.

• Spaces may not be reserved for K+ at multiple schools…select the first-choice school.

The following are highlights of the K+ program:

Classes will be staffed with a state certified Early Childhood Teacher and classroom assistant.

Curriculum will be aligned with the Catalina Foothills Envision 21: Deep Learning Kindergarten standards and will provide extended time for children to develop and practice the skills and knowledge to be successful learners in the Catalina Foothills School District schools.

Kindergarten Plus children will have access to their elementary school library, computers and playgrounds.

The optional, tuition-based, half-day session (Kindergarten Plus) will complement the half-day Kindergarten session offered by the district (funded by the state).

Lunch - 11:00am – 12:00pm (only for children enrolled in both sessions)

By enrolling your child in our Kindergarten programs, you will be taking the first step for your child’s successful educational journey in Catalina Foothills School District.

The Kindergarten Plus Program strives to complement the learning experience young children have in their school kindergarten classroom. The following is an example of a unit that Kindergarten Plus may explore and how this unit enforces the standards and benchmarks that are the focus of the kindergarten classroom teaching and learning.

Use listening skills, make contributions in a class discussion, identify health behaviors important to personal well-being.

Continue to understand that learning can come from careful observation and simple experiments. Share observations and comparisons.

Practice skills in recording data using tallies and numbers.

Understand calendar in days, weeks and months. Learn about the work that people do in the community.

Continue to learn how to use a variety of methods to report information.

Know how to use art materials in a safe and responsible manner, know that different media and techniques are used to communicate ideas.

Participate in basic rhythmic activities. Understand that physical activity is necessary to build good physical fitness
