Catalina Foothills School District’s commitment to 21st Century Learning continues after school with Community Schools’ elementary programs.
Afterschool enrichment opportunities include special activities and classes for students on early release days. Afterschool classes and camps extend into the later afternoon hours to broaden lifelong learning options for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Special programs through Community Schools serve as avenues for learning new skills and experiencing meaningful activities during school vacations and weekends.

CHESS---Grades: K-5 ---Fee: $63--- NOTE: Class ends at 2:35

No prior experience is necessary. Instruction begins at the child’s entry level. Chess has been proven to enhance academic achievement and is a skill that will last a lifetime. Optional participation in weekend league tournaments will be discussed in chess meetings. Instructor, Ken Larsen, is a competitive chess player and instructor. He has led CFSD students to local, state and national tournaments.

CRAZY CRITTERS --Grades: K - 5-- Fee: $120

Get up close with, and learn all about a new group of animals this quarter when Tucson Petting Zoo brings tortoises, rabbits, birds, bugs, etc. Take part in crafts and activities related to learning about these fascinating creatures!

TGA GOLF --Grades: K - 5-- Fee: $205
Tee it up Teach, Grow, Achieve (TGA), a national after-school golf enrichment program. TGA’s five-level program brings the golf course to school with specially-designed equipment for indoor or outdoor golf. Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers. All equipment is provided.

BRAINSTEM --Grades: K - 2-- Fee: $150
BrainSTEM brings the lab to you! After-school labs give students hands-on science experiences that relate to the world they live in. BrainSTEM is about critical thinking, problem solving, and learning by doing.

PLAYWELL: JEDI ENGINEERING --Grades: K - 2-- Fee: $130
The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO® materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire!

PALATE 2 PALETTE --Grades:1 - 5-- Fee: $150
Join Palate 2 Palette Tucson with their mobile painting programs. Follow the step by step instructions with their gifted artists. Each week you will create a new masterpiece on a palette you take home! Paintings never repeat!

After School

KIDSTAGE -- Grades: K - 5-- Fridays, 3:00-4:30pm--- Fee: $165
Join KidStage in the Canyon View Production of WONKA! Performance on March 9
Mr. Willy Wonka is the greatest chocolate maker the world has ever seen and he has invited 5 kids to come and tour his factory! The final child to find a golden ticket and win a tour of the factory is the kind-hearted Charlie Bucket who is anxious to share the news with his dear mother and his Grandpa Joe! Last, but certainly not least, we meet the colorful and amusing Oompa Loompas that Mr. Willy Wonka brought back from Loompaland to live and work in his factory. The Oompa Loompas have a knack for rhythm and help us learn from the events that unfold. Students will spend the quarter working towards the production of WONKA that will be held on March 9th.

TRACK and FIELD INTRAMURAL - Tuesdays, 3-4:00pm ---Grades: 3-5 ---Fee: $77
Get your track career started early with Community Schools this intramural season! Practice your stride, speed, and pace. We'll hop on the fast track to fitness through relays, sprints, and mid-distance running events! The session will culminate in an inter-district track meet on Saturday, March 10-

YOYOS-- Tuesdays, 3-4:00pm --Grades: K - 2-- Fee: $93

Come learn hand eye coordination with Build a Skill Yoyo! Students will build their own yoyo, learn tricks and more. Instructor, Jess Gracia, has been teaching yoyo skills to large groups of students for over 15+ years. Students will be taking home two different yoyos in this class. No experience required.

KIDZART - Wednesdays---Grades: K-3 ---Fee: $167

A KidzArt certified instructor that will guide students through a different project each week. Students will learn how to break projects into simple steps, art terms and vocabulary, as well as experience and learn techniques for varying drawing mediums. Our curriculum never repeats! No art experience necessary.

START STRONG: FOOD, FUN and FITNESS - Wednesdays---Grades: 2-5---Fee: $167 Kids will learn how to create delicious, healthy snacks as well as learn what foods help their bodies grow the best! There will be hands on activities to include “traffic light eating” and fun games to keep them active. In addition, they will learn how PLAY makes you smarter, improve self esteem, and so much more! A food menu will be provided for the whole program. Any and all food allergies will be addressed and we can adjust our foods to accommodate all kids to enjoy.

STEEL DRUMS BEGINNING at Canyon View 4:15 - 5:15---Grades: 5--Thursdays ---Fee: $56

This group is open to any 5th grade student with little or no experience playing steel drums. Students will learn to read and perform music for the steel drums and the culture surrounding steel drum music. Students will be expected to regularly attend rehearsals, scheduled performances and help move equipment when necessary.Student's fees cover a t-shirt, music and music binder. Ms. Moore-

BACKPACK BLING ---Grades: 2 - 5--Thursdays, 3-4:00pm ---Fee: $81
Dress up your backpack with some DIY keychains! Students will work on a different keychain each week. Projects will range from bead art, pom-poms, tassels, and more! All supplies is included.

HIKING CLUB ---Grades: 2 - 5--Fridays, January 26 - February 16 ---3:00-4:00pm, the last day will run until 5:00pm ---Fee: $45
Come explore the beauty of our unique and curious Arizona environment. Learn skills that you can utilize at any level of hike by creating trail markers, compasses, and personalized hiking sticks. We will finish the session with a hike on a local trail to search and experience the outdoors with our new knowledge. Transportation to and from trailhead will be provided. Jessica is the Canyon View program coordinator and loves the outdoors!

WINTER BREAK

Field Trips are Grades K-5 --- 9:00am-4:00pm --- All trips depart from and return to Sunrise Drive Elementary --- Please pack a lunch and water bottle.

January 2 - Reid Park Zoo
Lions, tigers, and bears oh my! Come with us as we venture to Reid Park Zoo to see animals from all over the world. We will meet with zoo staff as they take us behind the scenes and up close with some of their favorite critters. Explore the interactive elephant park, conservation learning center, and even feed a giraffe! Fee: $50

January 3 - Bowling and Palate 2 Palette
We will head to our favorite bowling alley for strikes, spares, arcade games, a pizza lunch. Following we will be visited by the gifted artists from Palate 2 Palette as we paint a canvas masterpiece. Don’t forget your socks! Fee: $55

January 4 - Winter Fun/Movie
Get cozy at Sunrise Drive for a day of winter fun! Create winter-themed crafts and play indoor games, we’ll enjoy our winter weather and run around outside. Then, hop over to the movies to see the latest kid friendly flick, “Ferdinand”. Please remember to bring a sack lunch and water. If you would like to purchase a kid’s snack pack from the theater, please bring $8,cash only. Fee: $50

January 5 - Winter Fun/Tucson Petting Zoo
Get cozy for another day at Sunrise for a day of winter fun! Create winter-themed crafts and play inside games as well as outside activities. We’ll enjoy a visit from Tucson Petting Zoo and get to meet some furry friends. Fee: $50

WINTER BREAK - CS OUTDOORS

Grades: 4-5 -- 9:00am-4:00pm --Depart from and return to Catalina Foothills HS

January 4 - Picacho Peak Hike

Winter is a great time to conquer the 1,500 foot peak of Picacho Peak State Park! Come enjoy the gorgeous views, learn about this area's unique geological significance and varied desert growth.We will grill hot dogs and make S'mores over the fire after our hike! January 5 - Madera Canyon Hike

Did you know Madera means wood in Spanish? Come see this amazing wooded canyon that is one of the hottest spots for migrating birds in Southeastern Arizona, and the United States! We will identify as many trees and birds as we can on this day hike in the shade. We will grill hot dogs and make S'mores over the fire after our hike! Pack list provided after registration.
